A Virginia pastor who previously lied about getting shot and robbed by a black man, was once again caught misleading the public — this time posing as a Navy SEAL during a recent convocation event at Jerry Falwell’s Liberty University.
A U.S. Army veteran noticed something off about a graying man who introduced himself as Mark Joston, was wearing a military dress uniform with what seemed an impossible collection of ribbons and badges on his jacket.
The man, later identified as Pastor George Hunley, displayed the insignia of four Navy SEAL purple hearts, an Afghanistan and Iraq veteran, and rear admiral for the CIA’s Special Ops. When pressed by the attending veterans, Hunley’s story began to unravel and many of the actual serviceman there quickly realized he was a sham.
“This guy made a big mistake by putting on that Navy Cross if he did not earn it because there are only a dozen or so who have earned the distinguished Navy Cross during the war on terror,” writes Michael Swaney at Popular Military. “There is no Mark Joston or “Josten” to be found on any list of Navy Cross recipients.”
Hunley was arrested earlier in the year for wrongly reporting to police he was shot twice and robbed by an interracial couple with a biracial infant after selflessly stopping to assist a family in distress. He was later released on a $2,500 bond for falsely summoning a cop with intent to deceive or mislead.
It is unknown if Hunley suffers from any mental illness or fits of compulsive lying. However being caught lying twice in the same year by the national media, it seems evident Hunley desires the praise and attention gained from masquerading as a heroic figure could indicate a deeper issue is involved.
YouTube user Nizzland456 uploaded a brief video of the encounter, with the following description:
Me calling out a fake Navy SEAL at Liberty University Convocation 10/21/205. Check out his goatee and Purple Heart with Campaign Stars instead of Oak Leaf Clusters.
