A group of Kenyan Muslims and Christians were ambushed by the Somali jihadist terror group al-Shabab while traveling on a bus this Sunday near the north-eastern village of El Wak on the Somali border.
When the militants attempted to separate the two groups, the Muslim passengers refused, telling the militants “to kill them together or leave them alone.” According to local media, and at least two people were killed.
Al-Shabab has not yet confirmed responsibility, but witnesses claim they were the ones culpable for the attack.
Al-Shabab has been committing acts of terror in Kenya’s north-eastern territories for years. Last summer, the group claimed the lives of 148 people in an attack on Garissa University College. The militants reportedly singled out and shot Christians while freeing many of the Muslim hostages.
Last year, they also killed 36 non-Muslims on a bus travelling to Nairobi for Christmas celebrations.
Al-Shabab has been at war with Kenya ever since Kenyan forces entered Somalia in October 2011 in an effort to crush the militants, according to the BBC. The terror group is reported to mainly prey on non-Muslims, but they have caused havoc throughout the region for its primarily Muslim population.
