North Carolina Governor Pat McCrory appeared on NBC’s Meet the Press this Sunday to defend the anti-LGBT bill he signed into law last month. Needless to say, it was a disaster for him.

During the interview, host Chuck Todd picked apart McCrory’s talking points, pointing the economic damage already hitting N.C. as a result of the law.

“Bloomberg, Capital One, United Airlines, Williams-Sonoma — that’s just on Friday,” Todd said, adding that the law has already cost the state that at least $39.7 million in lost revenue.

When Todd asked McCrory if he regretted passing the law, the governor replied with a rambling attack on government, finishing off with a frustrated declaration that he’s “not the private sector’s HR director.”

When Todd mentioned that similar arguments were made by politicians who tried to defeat the 1964 Civil Rights Act, McCrory dismissed LGBT rights as an “extremely new social norm that has come to our nation.”

At the close of the interview, McCrory took a familiar tactic of the anti-gay right and changed the subject to the human rights records of other countries, attacking Hollywood for opposing the bill, arguing that “the new Batman and Robin movie is playing in China, which has anti-gay, terrible, terrible human rights violations.”
