Trump ‘begs’ for photo op with NYPD cops after Dallas shooting, Chief Bratton says hell no

According to the New York Daily News, this Friday morning Donald Trump “begged” New York City Police Commissioner Bill Bratton to speak at a roll call at the NYPD North Precinct in the wake of the sniper attack that killed 5 Dallas police officers during a Black Lives Matter protest yesterday evening.

Bratton forcefully denied Trump’s request.

“Our interest is staying out of the politics of the moment, and not to provide photo ops,” Bratton told reporters, according to the Daily News. “If Mr. Trump wants to speak to me, I would be happy to brief him on what we’re doing. If Sen. Clinton wants to speak to me, I would very happy to brief her on what we’re doing. But we are not in the business of providing photo ops for our candidates.”

Earlier on Friday, Trump said that he had decided to postpone a speech in Miami due to the “horrific events taking place in our country.”

Chief Bratton and Trump have had public spats before. Last month, Bratton mocked Trump’s plan to have Muslims banned from entering the U.S., saying that the 36,000-officer NYPD has roughly 1,000 Muslim officers — some even guarding the midtown Manhattan skyscraper where Trump lives to help protect the presumptive GOP nominee as he runs for president.
