Zach Galifianakis’ latest episode of “Between Two Ferns” featuring Hillary Clinton has been viewed by almost 10 million people on YouTube, and a Donald Trump appearance would probably bring in just as many eyeballs, if not more – but the comedian refuses to have him on.
Speaking to the Los Angeles Times about his viral interview with Clinton, Galifianakis said that Trump’s “psychosis” is his disqualifying factor.
“No. That doesn’t interest me. Doing it the other way doesn’t interest me,” he said. “He’s the kind of guy who likes attention — bad attention or good attention. So you’re dealing with a psychosis there that’s a little weird. I wouldn’t have somebody on that’s so mentally challenged. I feel like I’d be taking advantage of him. And you can print that.”
According to Galifianakis, the segment was mostly improvised, and it was Hillary who reached out first with the idea.
When asked if he was worried how Hillary would handle the improv aspect, Galifianakis said that it all boils down to experience.
“I don’t think you can get as far as she has in American politics without a sense of humor – especially since she’s been so forced to play the boys’ [game], since that’s where the power structure is, though it’s changing. But yeah, she definitely has a sense of humor. For sure.”
Speaking to The Daily Beast, BTF director Scott Aukerman suggested that Trump would be terrible on the show.
“It’s not even in the realm of possibility of something that would ever happen,” Aukerman said, “I just can’t imagine him ever being cool enough to do that. Or if he did it, the first joke out of Zach’s mouth, he would lash out and start taunting Zach with some of his insults and it just wouldn’t be a good experience, so I don’t even think that it would ever happen.”
