Former presidential candidate and brand-new HUD Secretary Ben Carson has quite a *unique* revisionist view of history.
During a speech to HUD employees, Carson said that “immigrants” who “came here in the bottom of slave ships” as the examples of the “can-do” attitude that defines the American spirit.
“That’s what America is about,” Carson said. “A land of dreams and opportunity. There were other immigrants who came here in the bottom of slave ships, worked even longer, even harder for less. But they too had a dream that one day their sons, daughters, grandsons, granddaughters, great grandsons, great granddaughters might pursue prosperity and happiness in this land.”
Carson’s comments caused a firestorm on social media, especially on Twitter, and actor Samuel L. Jackson weighed in with his classic delivery:
