Keith Ellison: If you vote for ISPs to sell people’s browsing history, you have to reveal your own

In a reversal of a landmark FCC privacy rule this Tuesday, Republicans voted to allow ISPs to sell their customers’ data. Aside from some halfhearted explanations such as “consumer choice” and “free markets,” lawmakers couldn’t really explain who the action benefits other than companies like Comcast, Verizon, and AT&T.

If you want to know which Republicans sold out your internet privacy for “chump change,” the folk over at The Verge published this helpful list.

In an impassioned speech on the House floor on the day of the vote, Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN) slammed Republicans for selling out the American people for corporations.

“It is outrageous what the Majority is doing today,” Ellison said. “And I can’t possibly believe that it is conservative, that it is small government. I can’t believe that they believe that this is what a government in restraint should do.”

Ellison tweeted out a clip of his speech, with the caption, “Anyone who supports a bill allowing ISPs to sell your browsing history ought to release their own browsing history first.”
