Speaking this Thursday at an annual fundraising gala for Emily’s List, an organization that works to elect Democratic women, Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren encouraged her audience to look forward to a female president. But she wondered if there’d even be a male president ever again after Trump.
“We’re going to shatter the glass ceiling into so many pieces that the Donald Trumps and Mitch McConnells of the world will never be able to put it back together again,” Warren said. “The way things are going, if the next 3 years and 261 days are like Donald’s first 100 days — I wonder if America will ever be ready for a male president again.”
Warren certainly raises a fair point. Since day one, the Trump administration and its leadership have led devastating attacks on women’s healthcare and working families in general. Within a week of being inaugurated, Trump signed an executive order stripping funding of any global organizations that offered women information about abortion, and last month signed legislation allowing states to strip Planned Parenthood of federal funding.

“Donald Trump might call us names. Mitch McConnell might tell us to sit down and shut up,” Warren said. “We will not back down. We will not play dead. We will resist. We will persist. And we will win.”
Warren’s recent national book tour and activism have led to increased speculation that she may run for president in 2020, and her Thursday comments about Trump do little to discourage these rumors.
