White supremacist who beat Charlottesville counter-protester is arrested and charged

An 18-year-old white supremacist who was caught on video viciously beating a counter-protester during the unrest in Charlottesville has been arrested and charged.

Daniel Borden, 18, was arrested this Friday and charged in connection to the attack on 20-year-old Deandre Harris which was captured on video. The video showed Harris on the ground while being beaten by a group of white supremacists before he stumbled while trying to get away.

According the New York Daily News, Borden, who was charged with “malicious wounding,” has a history of racist incitement.

A classmate at his Ohio middle school told cops in 2012 that Borden once held a knife against his face, called him “Jew Boy” because he had a big nose, and often drew swastikas, according to WCPO-TV in Cincinnati.

The classmate also reported to police that Borden had claimed to belong to a gang called Brothers of Confederacy.

According to VIBE, Borden’s lawyer Greg Berberich claimed that the charges came “as a consequence of rioting caused by the City of Charlottesville’s decision to allow (Black Lives Matter) and Antifah (anti-fascism) members to attack those protesting the removal of Robert E. Lee’s statue from a local park.”

Police also issued an arrest warrant for 33-year-old Alex Michael Ramos in connection with the attack.
