According to various news reports, controversial Milwaukee pro-Trump sheriff David Clarke has unexpectedly resigned from his department.
The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reported that Clarke handed in a letter of resignation this Thursday afternoon.
“Pursuant to Wisconsin Statute 17.01, this communication is submitted as the notice of my resignation as Sheriff of Milwaukee County commencing Aug. 31, 2017, at 11:59 p.m.,” Clarke’s resignation said.

From the Journal-Sentinel:
Gov. Scott Walker will appoint Clarke’s successor, but the process won’t begin until the governor’s office receives the sheriff’s resignation letter.
Once that happens, the governor will seek applications, a process that usually takes a couple of weeks, and then begin interviewing candidates. Applicants must live in Milwaukee County to be appointed to the post.
Clarke has repeatedly come under fire for statements where he equated the Black Lives Matter movement with ISIS. He was also called upon to resign after it was revealed that four people died at his jail — all within a few months apart.
Clarke was reportedly offered a job by Trump in the Department of Homeland Security, but later turned down the offer.
