Racing legend defies NASCAR owners and voices support for NFL protesters

Legendary race car driver Dale Earnhardt Jr. is defying NASCAR owners’ warnings to drivers not to participate in the protests against police violence currently enveloping the sports world.

This Monday, Earnhardt took to Twitter and shared a quote from John F. Kennedy that said “those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable.”

This weekend, multiple NASCAR owners said they would fire drivers who dared to “take a knee” during the National Anthem — an announcement that received enthusiastic praise from President Trump.

“So proud of NASCAR and its supporters and fans,” Trump tweeted early Monday morning. “They won’t put up with disrespecting our Country or our Flag – they said it loud and clear!”

Trump’s tirade against NFL players showing solidarity with quarterback Colin Kaepernick has gone on for almost a week now. Speaking at a rally last week in Huntsville, Alabama, Trump took direct aim at Kaepernick, saying, “Wouldn’t you love to see one of these NFL owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say, ‘Get that son of a b*tch off the field right now. Out. He’s fired! He’s fired!'”
