Chuck Todd: After 9/11, did we say ‘now is not the time to talk about terrorism?’

During a segment on Meet the Press this Sunday, host Chuck Todd shared a few thoughts on the gun control debate in the wake of Stephen Paddock’s shooting spree in Las Vegas, killing almost 60 people and wounding another 500-plus.

Addressing pundits and politicians’ attempts to avoid the gun debate, Todd asked “Why is now not the time?”

“When planes flew into the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, did we say, ‘Now is not the time to talk about’ terrorism or homeland security?” Todd said “When our banking system nearly collapsed in 2008, did we say, ‘Now is not the time to talk about’ financial regulation?”

“If we apply the same logic to every other debate and every other crisis this country faces that we do to the gun debate, we never would have focused on any of those issues either.”
