On this Friday’s edition of Real Time, host Bill Maher enthusiastically dived into the burgeoning Roy Moore scandal. The details are ripe fruit for Maher to pick apart, since they’re the epitome of Republican hypocrisy.
“Welcome to another edition of ‘Who Pulled Their Dick Out This Week?'” Maher started out in his monologue.
After giving a brief review on the Moore story, Maher pointed out that in the wake of the scandal, top Republicans are speaking out — against the women.
“Sean Hannity had to apologize for saying it was consensual and then had to explain to the other guys at Fox News what ‘consensual’ means,” Maher said, referring to Hannity’s seeming justification of Moore’s alleged attempts to have a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old girl when he was 32. Hannity later claimed he was referring to the other three women involved in the story.
“He’s fundraising off of this!” Maher said incredulously, referring to Moore. “People are sending him money!”
Maher them mentioned the comments of Alabama State Auditor Jim Ziegler, who attempted to defend Moore by comparing his penchant for young girls as similar to Joseph, who’s relationship with Mary brought us Jesus.
“Using Jesus to justify child molestation? Even the Catholics went, ‘Tried it — doesn’t work.'” Maher quipped.
“I have to say, I’ve gotta defend my tribe … liberals versus conservatives,” he continued. “Because certainly, sexual harassment is absolutely the one thing we see now is totally, truly bipartisan; maybe the last thing that is. But no liberal defended Harvey Weinstein or Kevin Spacey — who might be going to jail. Anthony Weiner is in jail. Louis C.K. we hear, this week, did horrific things. Compare that to Trump and Roy Moore; we arrest our alleged rapists, they elect them.”
