Another Fox News personality is being accused of sexual assault, this time it’s Geraldo Rivera and the accuser is legendary singer and actress Bette Midler.
This Wednesday, Rivera tweeted his support for now-fired NBC anchor Matt Lauer in the wake accusations he sexually harassed NBC employees during his long tenure at the network. Rivera apologized for his hasty defense of Lauer, but a reckoning for his own past misconduct was just around the corner.
Soon after, a video of an interview Midler did with Barbara Walters back in 1991 resurfaced and it featured Midler telling a story about Rivera groping her back in the 70s.
“[Rivera] and his producer left his crew in the other room, they pushed me into my bathroom. They broke two poppers and pushed them under my nose and proceeded to grope me,” Midler said in the interview. “I did not offer myself up on the altar of Geraldo Rivera. He was unseemly. His behavior was unseemly.”
“Poppers” is a slang term for the drug alkyl nitrite.
This Thursday, Midler tweeted the video as her own contribution to the viral #MeToo social media movement, saying, “Tomorrow is my birthday. I feel like this video was a gift from the universe to me. Geraldo may have apologized for his tweets supporting Matt Lauer, but he has yet to apologize for this.”

In the video, Midler adds, “You have no way of knowing at the time that these things are going to come back to haunt you.”
No kidding.
