Trump skips a day of golf in honor of the Florida shooting victims

President Trump jetted off to Palm Beach, Florida this weekend for President’s Day, but made a note to skip a day of golf on Saturday in light of the shooting that took 17 lives at a high school just miles away from his Mar-a-Lago resort.

Speaking to Bloomberg, White House aides said Trump’s decision to forgo the links was out of respect for the victims killed at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School on Wednesday.

During his trip to Florida, Trump visited recovering shooting victims in a local hospital on Friday.

“It’s sad something like that could happen,” he said, adding that the doctors are “incredible,” according to The Hill.

While visiting with police officers and first responders who were at the scene the shooting, Trump joked with officers who arrested 19-year-old gunman Nikolas Cruz, telling an officer, “That was so modest, I would have told it much differently.”

“I would have said without me, they never would have found him,” Trump reportedly said.

When news of Trump self-imposed golfing restriction made the rounds on Twitter, some were skeptical of his intent.
