Shots fired as teacher barricades self inside Georgia high school classroom

According to various reports, a teacher who was barricaded inside a North Georgia high school has been taken into custody. The teacher’s identity is not yet available, but local news outlets are reporting that students at Dalton High School are safe.

Officers were called to the school after reports of gunfire inside the campus.

The Dalton Police Department tweeted at about 12:30 p.m. that a subject, believed to be a teacher, was barricaded in a classroom at the school. According to police, no children were hurt.

Police later reported that the teacher was in custody.

The incident comes just two weeks after 19-year-old Nikolas Cruz killed 17 people at Florida’s Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.

As The Hill points out, several people have arrested for making threats of violence against school in the weeks since the Florida massacre.
