A father who lost his daughter in the Parkland high school shooting is speaking out against a new NRA ad, saying that it amounts to nothing less than intimidation and terror tactics.
In his remarks, Fred Guttenberg said he’s fed up with the “way too comfortable, way too polite, and way too temporary” responses to acts of violence that “happen way too often.”
“I have no interest in being polite,” he said. “I have no interest in being comfortable or making anyone else comfortable when we talk about it. No one should feel comfortable talking about the death of my kid, and I have no interest in being temporary. I know I speak for myself, but for these kids as well, we’re not going anywhere. So, this is a debate, this is the time and we’re gonna get this done.”
He then turned his attention to a new ad released by the NRA, where spokesperson Dana Loesch is featured seemingly threatening journalists and the news media.
“I do want to bring to your attention something — and I’m not sure how many of you are aware of the video that the NRA put out two days ago,” Guttenberg said. “Because they put a target on all of your backs.”
“The NRA, a lobby that finances campaigns, that forces legislation, put out a video basically saying, ‘your time is running out,'” he said, addressing the room.
Guttenberg described how in the ad, Loesch addresses legislators, journalists, and the entertainment industry and tells them “if they don’t get behind the NRA, their time is running out.”
“And she had an hourglass, and at the end of her talking she turns it over and says, ‘Your time is up.’ A few days before this video, she had another video called ‘A Call to Arms.'”
“I ask you a question,” he said. “If this was put out by a terrorist organization, we would be raising the terror threat level in this country. Why are we letting this lobby have anything to do with D.C.? I don’t understand it!”
