Appearing on CNN, Dick Morris Says Hurricane Sandy Was the Reason for Obama’s Win (VIDEO)

In his first major appearance since being let go from Fox News, conservative pundit Dick Morris sat down with CNN’s Piers Morgan Wednesday night and claimed that the 2012 election was handed to Obama because of Hurricane Sandy.

“The fact of the matter is before Hurricane Sandy started, Obama was trailing Mitt Romney,” Morris said, “in Gallup, in Rasmussen, in virtually all of the major polls because he had lost the first debate, not recovered in the second, and got a little bit better in the third. Nobody could tell the impact of Sandy. Fifteen percent of the voters made up their minds in the last 72 hours [before the election]. They cited Sandy as number one.”

Morgan pointed out that Obama beat Romney handily and questioned the assertion that Hurricane Sandy was a major factor.

“Well, I prefer to believe that CNN’s polling was accurate, wouldn’t you?” Morris replied.

Morgan then said he thought that “all the polls should be taken with a large pinch of salt,” and invoked the name of Nate Silver who was widely praised for his accurate analysis of the polls.

Morris, seemingly wanting to change the subject, then acknowledged the widely shared analysis that Obama won because of a “fundamental demographic shift” in the U.S. electorate.

Morris was an adviser and close friend to President Bill Clinton during his administration, but later became one of the Clintons’ fiercest critics in the media. He began his commentary role on Fox in the late 90s, and he supported Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney during the 2012 elections. He received a firestorm of criticism for his “notable prediction on Fox News to Bill O’Reilly that Romney would beat President Obama in a landslide.
