GOP congressman on battling climate change: Let Jesus take the wheel

During a town hall event in Coldwater, Michigan, GOP Rep. Tim Walberg reassured his audience that if climate change turns out to be a “real problem,” it should be handled by God, not humans.

“I believe there’s climate change. I believe there’s been climate change since the beginning of time,” Walberg said. “Do I think man has some impact? Yeah, of course. Can man change the entire universe? No.”

“Why do I believe that? Well, as a Christian, I believe that there is a creator in God who is much bigger than us,” he continued. “And I’m confident that, if there’s a real problem, he can take care of it.”

“I don’t expect you to agree with me on that,” he added as the audience reacted with disapproval.

The vast majority of scientists agree that man-made climate change is a real phenomenon.

In a huge setback for gains made in battling climate change during the Obama administration, President Trump plans to withdraw from the Paris Agreement on climate change, making the U.S. just one of three countries to do so.
