A 1950s TV show featured a character named ‘Trump’ who promised a town he’d build them a wall

A clip from a 1950s TV series started to make the rounds on YouTube in November of last year. The intro in the link made an eye-catching claim: “This 1958 TV Western PREDICTED DONALD TRUMP.”

The TV western series was called Trackdown, and sure enough, the episode in question featured a character named “Trump” who offered a town protection from the “end of the word” by building a wall that would encircle it. As Snopes points out, the episode aired on CBS in 1958 and was titled “The End of the World.” The lead role of “Walter Trump” was played by Lawrence Dobkin.

From Classic TV Archive:

Walter Trump, a confidence man, puts on a long robe and holds a tent meeting in the town of Talpa. He tells the townspeople that a cosmic explosion will rain fire on the town and that he is the only one that can save them from death. Ranger Hoby Gilman attempts to prove Trump is a fraud.
