After the announcement of David Bowie’s passing on January 10th after an 18 month battle with liver cancer, a small memorial took root outside his Lafayette Street home. What started with flowers and small trinkets grew massively throughout the day, and by nightfall crowds mourning Bowie filled the entire street.
The mourners left everything from photographs, to albums, to more flowers, to candles, to notes, to art, to shoes.
Fans gathered around, leaving further tokens of their appreciation and paying their respects. One man even tagged a nearby spot with the words “Let’s Dance.” Others played his music.
