Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez fires back at Mike Huckabee: ‘Leave the false statements to your daughter’

In what looks to be a burgeoning mini-Twitter feud, Representative-elect Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) took a shot at former Arkansas governor and Mike Huckabee after he criticized statements she made about her recent election.

Ocasio-Cortez was responding to Huckabee after he shared an article that suggested she compared her primary victory to great historical milestones, such as the moon landing.

“Ocasio-Cortez compares her election to moon landing. Huh?” Huckabee tweeted this Sunday. “Big difference. Moon landing was LUNAR, not LOONEY; Moon landing done by ppl who knew what they were doing…those who elected someone who thought there were 3 branches of Congress did NOT.”

Huckabee was referring to a statement from a press conference where Ocasio-Cortez said, “We went to the moon. We electrified the nation. We established civil rights. We enfranchised the country. We dig deep, and we did it. We did it when no one else thought that we could. That’s what we did when so many of us won an election this year.”

In a tweet this Sunday evening, Ocasio-Cortez accused Huckabee of taking her words out of context.

“A Green New Deal will take a level of ambition + innovation on the scale of the moon landing. We’ve been done it before, and can do it again,” she tweeted. “Leave the false statements to Sarah Huckabee. She’s much better at it.”

Ocasio-Cortez has frequently been the target of conservatives characterizing her as ignorant and inexperienced. Some of the attacks have stooped to the level of pointing out the clothes she wears.

Last month, Washington Examiner reporter Eddie Scarry posted a picture of her to Twitter, accusing her of allegedly wearing expensive clothes — a detail he says goes against her ‘struggling for money’ narrative.

Ocasio-Cortez responded, retweeted Scarry’s tweet with the following caption:

“If I walked into Congress wearing a sack, they would laugh & take a picture of my backside. If I walk in with my best sale-rack clothes, they laugh & take a picture of my backside. Dark hates light – that’s why you tune it out. Shine bright & keep it pushing.”
