Anti-gay Republican resigns after getting caught being gay

Wes Goodman was one of those “family values” Republicans who broadcasted his Christian faith and anti-LGBT worldview. Now, according to a report from The Columbus Dispatch, it turns out that Goodman likes to have sex with other men.

Goodman, who is the GOP state legislator for Ohio, is married and also the assistant-director of the annual anti-abortion rally March for Life. This Tuesday afternoon, someone caught him having sex with another man in his office. When word got around about what happened, the 33-year-old politician, who is known as the “conscience of the conservative movement,” resigned his position for “inappropriate conduct.”

In a statement to the Associated Press, Goodman said:

We all bring our own struggles and our own trials into public life. That has been true for me, and I sincerely regret that my actions and choices have kept me from serving my constituents and our state in a way that reflects the best ideals of public service.

For those whom I have let down, I’m sorry.

After the revelations, Goodman set his Twitter account to private. Outlets pointed out that his Twitter bio was the typical screed that promoted his heterosexual Christianity. On his campaign website which is now offline, he declared, “Healthy, vibrant, thriving, values-driven families are the source of Ohio’s proud history and the key to Ohio’s future greatness. … The ideals of a loving father and mother, a committed natural marriage, and a caring community are well worth pursuing and protecting.”

Here’s an idea: come to terms with your sexual orientation, live life as a gay man without shame, have all the sex with men that you want, and enjoy a career in politics.

Goodman’s resignation comes on the heels of the departure of Ohio State Democrats chief of staff Michael Premo for sexual harassment. In addition, Ohio GOP state Senator Cliff Hite resigned last month after a state employee said he repeatedly propositioned her for sex.
