AOC fires back at Ivanka Trump: ‘I actually had to work in my life instead of learning about it 2nd hand’

In an interview with Fox News that was released Monday night, Ivanka Trump took aim at Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) after she was asked whether her father’s 2020 campaign would focus on the perceived “socialism” that the Democratic party is allegedly pivoting towards.

“You’ve got people who will see that offer from the Democrats, from the progressive Democrats, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez: ‘Here’s the Green New Deal, here’s the guarantee of a job,’ and think, ‘yeah, that’s what I want, it’s that simple.’ What do you say to those people?” Fox host Steve Hilton asked Trump.

“I don’t think most Americans, in their heart, want to be given something,” the First Daughter and senior advisor to President Trump replied. “I’ve spent a lot of time traveling around this country over the last 4 years. People want to work for what they get. So, I think that this idea of a guaranteed minimum is not something most people want. They want the ability to be able to secure a job. They want the ability to live in a country where’s there’s the potential for upward mobility.”

AOC, a slayer of giants on Twitter, responded to Trump in a tweet fired off this Tuesday afternoon.

According to the Democratic Rep. from New York, Ivanka Trump doesn’t know the difference between hard work and freebies.

“As a person who actually worked for tips & hourly wages in my life, instead of having to learn about it 2nd-hand, I can tell you that most people want to be paid enough to live,” AOC tweeted.

“A living wage isn’t a gift, it’s a right,” she added. “Workers are often paid far less than the value they create.”

In a follow-up tweet, AOC shared some data from the Economic Policy Institute and said that “wages are so low today compared to actual worker productivity that they are no longer the reflections of worker value as they used to be,” adding that productivity “has grown 6.2x more than pay.”

In sum, Trump learned what countless other politicians and pundits already have: If you want to go viral, call out Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
