Ben Carson really, actually, truly, literally believes the earth was created in six days

Dr. Ben Carson is supposed to be a man of science. He is a world-renowned pediatric neurosurgeon, known for performing medical feats that other surgeons have only dreamed of. However, neurosurgery seems to be where Dr. Carson’s appreciation for science begins and ends, because his views on everything else are anything but scientific.

According to Mother Jones, Carson, like many Christians, takes the Bible as the literal word of God.

When he says literal, though, he means literal — right down to the claims in Genesis that God created the earth in only six days, then took the seventh to rest. The comments come from a 2011 “Celebration of Creation” conference, at which Carson railed against the theory of evolution, as well as the Big Bang Theory. The only rational thing he did say was that he’s at least somewhat okay relenting on the popular creationist idea of a 6,000-year-old earth, saying, “I am not a hard-and-fast person who says the Earth is only 6,000 years old.”

He went on to insist that the the earth was created in six days– yes, days. Carson said:

“I do believe in the six-day creation. It says in the beginning God created the heaven and Earth. It doesn’t say when he created them, except for in the beginning. So the Earth could have been here for a long time before he started creating things on it. But when he did start doing that, he made it very specifically clear to us the evening and the morning were the next day because he knew that people would come along and try to say that, ‘Oh, it was millions and millions of years.’ And then what else did he say in the very first chapter? That each thing brought forth after its own kind. Because he knew that people would come along and say, you know, this changed into that and this changed into that and this changed into that. So at the very beginning of the Bible, he puts that to rest.”

In other words, we have a creationist front runner in the GOP’s bid for the 2016 White House.
