Ben And Jerry’s has just released the first ever ice cream flavor that also doubles as a metaphor for socio-economic inequality. Dedicated to and named for Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders, this delicious treat has an interesting twist.
The ice cream flavor, called “Bernie’s Yearning,” is solid mint ice cream topped with a hard chocolate shell. The hard chocolate barrier represents the immense portion of wealth that is being held onto by only the very topmost percentage of wealthy Americans. If you want some chocolate chips in your mint, you have to redistribute them yourself.
As Ben Cohen, the co-founder of Ben & Jerry’s, explained to MSNBC when discussing “Bernie’s Yearning,”
