Christian pastor: The California wildfires were the ‘consequence of your sin’

Right-wing pastor Rick Joyner appeared on the Prophetic Perspective on Current Events webcast this Monday and carried on the great tradition of far-right evangelicals blaming natural disasters on “sin” — namely gay stuff and abortion.

According to Joyner, the wildfires that ravaged California late last year were a manifestation of a “warning” given to us by God.

“The warning that the Lord gave us through his prophets, beginning with Moses and on, [told us] that this is going to be the result of your sin,” Joyner said in a video clip flagged by Right Wing Watch.

“If you turn from following the Lord and you start calling good evil and evil good, and honoring the dishonorable and dishonoring the honorable, these are going to be the consequences,” he added. ‘

This isn’t the first time Joyner has dabbled in this brand of idiocy. In a post to his Facebook page last year as Hurricane Florence battered the Carolinas, he said that the storm was the result of sin “which is clearly defined in scripture.”

“One of the worst things we could do to bring a curse on a nation is the shedding of innocent blood,” Joyner said in the post from September. “What could be more innocent than the unborn? And look at what America is doing.”

This Monday, Joyner declared that California’s wildfires were just examples of biblical prophecy coming true.

“[The bible] talks about storms, it talks about earthquakes, and it talks about fires coming upon the land and burning the land,” he said.

“I think the only one that has discernment on why this is happening seem to be the insurance companies. They’re the only ones who call it—these are acts of God.”
