Creationists went into freakout mode over evolution-themed Google Doodle

In celebration of the 41st anniversary of the discovery of Lucy the Australopithecus, Tuesday’s Google Doodle featuring the extinct hominid, has the Creationist community up in arms.

The 1974 discovery of Lucy’s fossilized hominid skeleton in Ethiopia significantly changed our understanding of human ancestry. Lucy seemed to have walked upright, though she was far less intelligent than humans today (creationists included). Forty-seven bones, representing approximately 40% of her skeleton were uncovered, bringing to light new information about how humans evolved throughout history.

Proponents of Creationism (a belief system that interprets literally the Bible’s chronology as to the origins of the universe and biology) did not hesitate to express their outrage as a result of Tuesday’s Doodle.

One writes, “Google supports the THEORY of evolution. If evolution were true we wouldn’t have monkeys around anymore, idiots!”

Another writes, “Google, I’m not a monkey!”
