D.L. Hughley tells conservative: ‘You’ll never see a ‘Black Lives Matter’ t-shirt at a GOP convention’

On HBO’s Real Time with Bill Maher this week, comedian D.L. Hughley got into it with conservative author and columnist Dan Senor when the former GOP strategist, seemingly taking the side of the cops in Freddie Gray’s death, argued that it could not have been a race issue since the leaders of the city of Baltimore are mostly black.

“I’ll explain Baltimore if you explain the entire Southern region of the country,” Hughley replied sarcastically.

“I’m just saying, how is this a racial issue?” Senor shot back.

Hughley countered that the debate is a wider issue, which includes the infallibility of cops.

“You know what you’ll never see at a Republican convention? You’ll never see a ‘Black Lives Matter’ t-shirt,” Hughley added. “You’ll never see it. It’ll never happen, because it’s almost like that happens somewhere else beside the country we live in.”

“The thing that drives these riots is still lack of opportunity, impoverished schools, community divestment,” he explained. “Yes, our families have changed, but the idea that we are ‘less than’ has not.”
