Deputy clerk vows to issue marriage licenses regardless of boss Kim Davis’s objections

Despite the looming presence of his anti-gay boss Kim Davis, a Kentucky deputy clerk has vowed to comply with the law and issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples.

After refusing to issue marriage licenses despite a court order for weeks, Davis was finally jailed for contempt, resulting in her being hailed as a Christian by the evangelical community.

Davis was freed this week, and may return to work either Friday or Monday. But according to her attorney, she will continue to refuse to “violate her conscience.” That’s where her deputy clerk comes in. Brian Mason says the office will continue to issue licenses regardless of Davis’s objections.

From the AP:

Mason said Wednesday that licenses would be granted to anyone seeking them. He told reporters that if Davis tells him to stop, he will tell her no. Mason says he would have to follow the judge’s order to issue licenses.

We’ll continue to update this story as it develops.
