Evangelical Christian leader: ‘President Trump is a genetic marvel’

Richard D. Land is the president of the Southern Evangelical Seminary, so you can imagine that he sees evil in a lot of things: Planned Parenthood, gay marriage — but when it comes to the walking obscenity that is Donald Trump, he has nothing but praise.

During an appearance on the Focus Today program last week, Land lauded Trump’s stamina as president, despite reports that he has a “shrinking schedule” and only works just a few hours a day; this is of course in addition to his obsession with watching Fox News and posting rambling rants on Twitter.

Saying that he regularly speaks with a friend who sees Trump “virtually every day,” Land said the President is “doing fine” when it comes to dealing with the stresses of being president.

“The President does not have a reverse gear,” Land recounts his friend as saying.

“I would think being chief of staff to President Trump would be more difficult than virtually any president in my memory,” Land said in a video clip flagged by Right Wing Watch. “President Trump is the Energizer Bunny.”

“He gets up at five in the morning, he goes to bed at midnight and it’s full bore all the way in between,” he continued. “He’s a genetic marvel.”

Land then regurgitated the evangelical trope that says Trump has moved on from his former depraved and adulterous ways, saying that he’s a very “different man” than he was years ago.

“He’s a very different man morally, he’s a very different man spiritually,” Land said. “I think the nature of his third marriage is one that Christians would be much more comfortable with.”

“When it came down to a binary choice between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump, I’ll take Donald Trump every day and twice on Sunday,” he added. “I believe Donald Trump is a more moral man than Hillary Clinton is a moral woman. I believe he’s more moral, I believe he is more of a law-abider, I believe he’s a far better person to be president of the United States than Hillary Clinton.”
