‘Family values’ conservative: If women can breastfeed in public, I can grab their breasts

In a recent Facebook post, New Hampshire state representative Josh Moore said that if a law to ban topless female nudity fails, men should be able to squeeze exposed nipples in public.

In a recent Facebook post, New Hampshire state representative Josh Moore said that if a law to ban topless female nudity fails, men should be able to squeeze exposed nipples in public.

Moore was responding to a post by a Democrat colleague who opposes the bill, when the two got into a squabble, prompting Moore to make the comments.

Currently in New Hampshire, it is legal for both men and women to expose their nipples in public, but a state bill would make it a misdemeanor for women to expose their nipples, even for breastfeeding. The bill is backed solely by Republican men.

State representative Amanda Bouldin went to Facebook to voice her issues with the bill and its Republican support. Bouldin found irony int the fact that Republicans claim to believe in freedom and small government, but are now attempting to ban the female breast.

Representative Moore chimed in on Bouldin’s brief post with a typo-riddled comment, presented below unaltered:

Who doesn’t support a mothers right to feed? Don’t give me the liberal talking points Amanda. If it’s a woman’s natural inclination to pull her nipple out in public and you support that, than you should have no problem with a mans inclnantion to stare at it and grab it. After all, it’s ALL relative and natural, right?

Although Moore deleted the comment shortly after it was posted, many Facebook users grabbed a screenshot.

Unfortunately, more Republicans harassed Bouldin on Facebook, even sinking to throwing personal insults. Another Republican, state representative Al Baldasaro, made an unprovoked insult about Bouldin’s body. Again, the grammar is atrocious:

Baldasaro and Moore both went on to comment again on Bouldin’s post, fearing that the state would turn into a “topless bar” and corrupt the minds of children. However, exposing the female nipple is currently legal in New Hampshire and there are no reports of the state descending into chaos.

Bouldin did not comment on her colleague’s strange comments or personal attacks, but stayed focused on the bill at hand when speaking to Slate. Bouldin said that she believes that the demonization of the female nipple is pure sexism, as the male nipple is equally sexual.

“We shouldn’t be introducing new legislation that only applies to women,” she said. “If we had any laws that started with the sentence ‘women should not,’ they should have been repealed by now.”

I wonder if he would defend a black man who did as he suggested to a breast-feeding white woman or is this a privilege to be enjoyed only by white Republican males?

    Dear Family Values Josh,

May I grab the nipples of all the shirtless men I see in public? It would be so much fun to give in to my uncontrollable urges – that I have had to bury ALL my life. But you know, I managed and now see a shirtless man as simply someone trying to stay cool or perhaps showing off their physique, but I do NOT see it as a sexual invitation unless I am in bed with a man.

And do not tell me your nipples are not an important part of your sexual foreplay.

Your position about grabbing women’s breasts shows a severe lack of ability to differentiate between a sexual advance and a motherly function. You need re-training.

Respond if you want a referral for psychiatric help.

This man willingly testifies that he has no level of self awareness or self control. I agree with a past post, why cant anyone grab anything they see then? This republican monstrosity cannot understand the difference between “natural” behavoir, which includes a basic level of human understanding, and indecent behavoir, which in his case is when one thinks they should act like a pervert in public . Representative Moore should not be in office.

If he feels its okay to assault a woman in public is what this would be considered as it would be an unwanted touch then he should have no problem with my using what ever means necessary to stop his assault on said women as it is reasonable to assume that any man who is touching a woman without her consent is so doing with the intent and purpose of causing her undue harm or loss of life.

Thank you! Well said. This guy is the poster child for rape culture. If you were to follow his logic, any bit of exposed female skin that might turn a guy on is an open invitation for molestation of said body part. This is so unbelievably twisted that I can barely contain my anger at this line of thinking. Breastfeeding is a noble and nurturing act. If you are offended or aroused by it, the problem is you! Look away! If you’re worried about “family values” and the innocence of children, educate your children on breastfeeding, don’t promote further ignorance. It is downright frightening to read about this insane mysoginistic logic.

It is NOT ok to grab a woman’s breast that has been exposed for breast-feeding. Grabbing anyone ANYWHERE on their bodies without their permission is unacceptable. People need to keep their hands to themselves. Just because you can see a body part doesn’t mean you have permission to touch it, and it doesn’t matter which one.

If it’s not yours, and you don’t have permission to touch it, DON’T!

So sick of the government making laws that govern womens’ behavior and bodies. We really need more intelligent women in government. Unfortunately, most of the intelligent women know better than to take the job. Thankfully, there are a few brave, selfless, intelligent women in the US willing to serve the people.

Women need to hit these men where it hurts. No sex from any woman, including their S/Os until they learn that we are not second class citizens or inferior in any way. Problem is that too many women are brainwashed from childhood into believing the tripe that these men claim as truth and support the lies. Somehow we need to get to the children before these dimwits get them brainwashed. By children, I mean girls AND boys. Our sons and daughters need to grow up knowing that neither is inferior to the other. Both are to be respected. Completely.

And if this is the standard of the lawmakers of the USA – even God may hesitate to save this blot on humanity.

Gawking is not pinching nipples. Guys walk around with no shirts and I know how to look and not touch. Breast feeding ought not solicit sex. It’s a real pervert that gets “tempted” when “checking out” a baby feeding from it’s mother.

I’m a first time mother who exclusively breastfeeds. I wish people understood how GODDAMN frustrating and heartbreaking it is, to be in public and have to find some place to go and hide when you’re child gets hungry. So many times I’ve had to exclude myself and my son to a bathroom, car, storage closet, just because I don’t want to deal with people like this. I’ve resorted to just staying home all day long. Tell me why women should have to deal with this? Do people understand the amazing benefits of breastfeeding? I’m physically scared and exhausted when I have to feed my son outside of our home. And I wish I wasn’t. Because it’s silly of me to feel that way, but public breastfeeding shaming it’s obviously a real thing, no wonder so many mothers give up so quickly. We need to put an end to this. There’s absolutely NOTHING sexual about it. And the animals who are trying to compare it, need to be the ones staying at home.

I should be able to urinate in public without getting weird looks. Hey, its a completely natural thing and I’m just using it for what it was intended for. What am I supposed to do, hold it in? If you don’t like it, look away. Sheesh!

  87. Bob Ara

A special kind of stupid! Does he want to go around and squeeze men’s nipples? I’ll bet not. Because of fat cells and milk ducts you want to pinch nipples and think it’s okay? You just don’t touch another persons body – it is ASSAULT!

  88. BarbaraG

    January 3, 2016 at 8:16 am

This is so disgusting and backwards. What is wrong with these people? Breastfeeding is the normal, natural way to feed infants and children. The World Health Organization recommends breastfeeding up to an age of 2 and beyond, for as long as mother and child wish. The natural human weaning age is 4 years.

If we are talking about exposure, you can see more breast tissue staring from every billboard than you ever could see on a breastfeeding mother. Their nipples aren’t exposed, they are in their babies’ mouths. And what’s this “If you expose it, I can squeeze it” bullshit? People in bikinis expose skin, and you still aren’t allowed to touch it, pervert. It’s just like the “good Republicans” that used to blare that women in short skirts were asking to be raped. YUCK. And people actually want idiots like THIS, that basically encourage assault and sexual harrassment, to represent them?

If you don’t want to watch a woman feed her baby, how about looking somewhere else? It’s not like she is forcing herself on you, most moms who feed will be as discrete as they can anyway, but don’T make them feed on a dirty toilet.

I am thoroughly disgusted at this garbage.

I just wrote: May I grab the nipples of all the shirtless men I see in public? Is it OK for gay men reach out and grab your thing in a public urinal? As you state, these are just people’s inclination when they see something sexual, like genitals or nipples…
If you think these suggestions sound absurd, compare them to your suggestion about breast feeding women. It may surprise you that MOST people know how to control their urges/inclinations in public – and those that don’t are called perverts and rapists. Of which group do you want to be a member? Because right now, I am giving you the benefit of the doubt…and just considering you a pervert based on your comments.

Only perverted men make issue with this. I cannot think of a more beautiful thing than a mother feeding her child. It is nature in motion at its finest. I may offer a admiring glance and a smile but there is no reason why the mother cannot feed her child as SHE sees fit whenever, wherever. Welcome at our Christmas dinner table.

  96. Jessica

    January 3, 2016 at 8:46 am

This idea would mean if men’s privates were exposed while peeing in restroom that other men could grab them. It’s not yours alone If it’s exposed to anyone.

A REAL MAN would just notice what’s going on with the mother and her baby and would just look the other way to help keep the mother from feeling uncomfortable!! If a man wants to stare at nipples and breasts then GO BUY A MAGAZINE!! A women feeding her baby should not be a turning but looked at as Normal and Natural!!

  98. Denise

    January 3, 2016 at 8:49 am

So, Representative Moore, by your statement, if you are out and about topless on a warm day, and I stare at your chest (my being aroused), does that mean I can squeeze your nipples?

  99. Jamie

    January 3, 2016 at 8:50 am

Thats a hygiene and sanitation issue. Breastmilk from a breast is not. It’s not the same argument.

I have friends that Brest feed their babies. It is done very discretely usually the baby and the mother are covered. What mother wants to Brest feed her baby in a public bathroom? I have never ever seen a woman pop out her naked Brest to feed a baby. Matter of fact if men could Brest feed this would not be an issue.

Public breastfeeding = Sustains life by feeding a child, won’t affect nature in any way
Public urinating = Urinating per se can help your bladder but public urinating: Bad for the environment; Look for a restroom.

Seriously? You’ll go on prattling about this nonsense shit? Haven’t you even thought your mother breastfed you or somehow someone nursed you when you were a kid?

I know I’m triggering some women right now but calm yourself, I truly wish to understand the situation a little better.

  105. Stacey

Do you feed a child urine? The two are completely different. Breasts are not genitalia.

  106. Jamie Marcella

    January 3, 2016 at 9:15 am

If one is aroused by the sight of an infant nursing, than one needs some serious psychiatric attention. ASAP. So I can only hope that there aren’t really enough pedos in congress to use the “nipple is a sexual organ” excuse…so you’re saying that all these mothers are molesting their infant children, in public no less? Oh wait, no…you’re telling me that the majority populous is into infantiphelia…so the minority needs to accommodate them, by reducing the temptation…Anyway you slice it, this argument does not play out in any plausible scenario as valid defense for “family values” especially when it’s telling people not to value their own family’s health…

So you feed your urine to your children ????? You sick perv! See…. that is the difference. In no way are you providing anything beneficial by peeing in public. Breathfeeding is for feeding a small infant not to mention a penis and a breast are no where close to the same thing. A penis or vagina is only used for sex or elimination where as a breast is ment to feed a child.

Now with my third I nurse him wherever I am and when he’s hungry. Just remember the more that you are seen nursing the easier it is for another mother and the more “normal” it will become for the generation after us. You are doing great nursing that baby!!!

Why is this a topic of discussion? If a women is breastfeeding her hungry child despite location( for they get hungry at anytime and place, just as any other human) and any being other than her child decides to grab her breast and feel her up, that is rape/sexual assault. This statement Moore made is truly disheartening and I hope this never happens to his daughter when she grows up.

  131. Anna

    January 3, 2016 at 10:13 am

This restrictive approach to human body functions always surprises me. A) Urination, in both sexes, happens to be connected to sexual areas. An exposure of those areas, while going to the bathroom, or otherwise, is not an invitation to a sexual approach. B) A mother breastfeeding is responding to the survival need of her child. She is doing that as a service to her child, not for herself. Again, this is not an invitation to be sexually touched. It’s a need that must be performed every 3-4 hours, for the baby and the mom (has this misogynist republican experienced how painful it is when your breasts are full and you cannot empty them? Of course not). Women are not exposing themselves in this situation, they are feeding their babies. As somebody else already said here: We could apply the same stupid law to men with no shirt and read that as an invitation to grab their nipples.

  132. Pamela Harley Thompaon

  134. Kel

    January 3, 2016 at 10:17 am

And believe me, some people eating are a much worse thing to look at than a mother breastfeeding her baby, yet nobody tries to make them eat on the toilet or only at home. You should definitely get your comparisons straight 😉

You don’t have to feed your child in the bathroom or closet or anywhere – and you don’t need to cover him under anything either. My daughter was born in 2004, I nursed her everywhere and anywhere until she was almost 3 years old. The more we stand up for our human rights, the more they will be accepted by everyone and jerks like this guy will be acknowledged as the idiots that they are. I am sad every time I see a tiny infant being bottle fed in public. I want to encourage every breast feeding mother I see in public, but I don’t because I’m worried they will feel they have to hide next time. I applaud everyone who breastfeeds their baby in public!

While I agree that men shouldn’t represent the needs of women as it is pretentious and inefficient, a dichotomized vote system in federal government by means of sex will only generate more inequality and rip society apart on issues even more than it already is. No group of people should be excluded from voting on issues regarding policy.

A better solution is to create balance in congress and the senate instead of bastardizing each other or whatever figurehead we elect as President.

To begin with, Josh Moore and Al Baldasaro, judging by the level of illiteracy apparent in your messages, you should be more concerned about education and less about boobs. Second, it is a really sad day for america, to have such misogynistic leaders, who’s view of females is similar to the Taliban’s view. Third, Baldasaro is an italian name. Do you realize that your grandmother and great grandmother took their babies to the fields with them when they worked there? AND when the babies got hungry these women breastfed them right there? Are you suggesting that your grandmother was perverted? Or that the men working in the field should have grabbed her breasts? It seems to me, the more “civilized” society becomes, the less common sense the people have. You fight for the right of restaurants like Hooters to dress ( or undress) their staff as they wish, yet when a mother needs to feed her infant in the restaurant, you force her to take the baby into a filthy bacteria filled public toilet? Would you take your plate and go eat in a public toilet? Anyone who thinks a baby breastfeeding is a sexual thing, is a pervert who also thinks that if a little girl is wearing a short dress, a pedophile has the right to rape her. Shame on you!!

  167. Sandra V.

    January 3, 2016 at 12:15 pm

Why is this law only directed toward women….I do believe men have nipples as well. Frankly, this idiot needs a lesson in common sense.
First of all, if a woman is breastfeeding… Her nipple is not showing. Most of us are covering up with a blanket and the process of the infant/baby latching on takes all of a second. I which no one sees a darn thing.
They just seem to want to control everything. For centuries children have been breastfeed in public. Why is this basic way of living being attacked? I don’t get it.
We are giving children the best natural form of nutrition. I have never seen any breastfeeding mom just whoop out their breast for all to see… They usually cover themselves in some form as to not offend anyone. Besides, if the onlooker is paying that much attention to what is happening, maybe something is wrong with them. Just saying.

    January 3, 2016 at 12:28 pm

Hi Kyle, thanks for respectfully asking your questions. They are good ones and legitimate.

A small baby (newborn-6 months or so) typically eats every 1-3 hours. And when a baby is hungry, a baby is hungry. As a mom, it isn’t always easy to time when you are out and when your baby needs to eat. Also, i live 40 minutes from the grocery store, so trips out are long and not often, there isn’t a way I can make it to town and back between feedings, it just doesn’t happen. Many people say that women should go to a bathroom to feed. I have two older children as well as my baby. When I go to town with all three kids by myself (which is often because my husband is a farmer) juggling all three of them in the public bathroom so a nightmare, not only do I have to try to sit on a dirty toilet seat to feed my baby, but I Need to keep my older two kids contained (not touching stuff, rolling on the floor, etc.) it is not easy. Some say that women should sit in their cars to feed, it is currently 20 degrees at my house…and this is warm for this time of year. I am fine sitting in the car to feed before I go into a store or restaurant or when I come out, but if I am in the middle of shopping or eating and the baby needs to eat, it is hard to leave my cart or bags, or my table and meal, bundle all three of my kids up and go out to the cold car to feed the baby…only to have to go back in and start over.

As far as the efficacy of formula, that seems to be a very personal question. Personally, I believer that the benefits of breast milk are worth the work it takes to be successful at breastfeeding, the vitamins and nutrients are exactly what my baby needs to grow and develop. If my baby is beginning to get sick, my body can read that and develop antibodies to strengthen the babies’ immune system to help fight off that sickness. It is really amazing. also, some babies have allergies to formula! other babies are so used to nursing that they refuse to use a bottle.

I hope this helped answer your questions.

  171. Jill

    January 3, 2016 at 12:30 pm

Assault is assault Josh. No, you may not assault a woman because she’s there in front of you. Using your logic, because I can see your face, I should be able to punch it. Come to think of it, that’s a great idea.

  172. Baillie

    January 3, 2016 at 12:46 pm

Kyle, I would suggest you ask your mom about breast feeding. If she can’t answer you, then you might want to do some research on your own.
In the mean time, If you’re hungry do you find something to eat? As an adult you are capable of getting yourself to a refrigerator or, assuming you are over the age of 16, you would drive yourself to a restaurant to eat. A baby doesn’t have the means to do that so he/she relies on mom to take care of this need. If a baby is crying because of hunger it needs to be fed. If that child is being fed by its mother’s breast then she needs to feed the baby.
As far as breast milk vs formula breast milk is 100% natural. It doesn’t contain additives to enhance it or agents to make it taste more palpable. Humans are the only species of mammals that are given grief for feeding their offspring at the breast. Other mammals of other species do not make a mother’s breast a sexual object, only man does this.
Man is supposedly superior to all living creatures, yet we demonize our own for doing something as natural as giving sustainance to our own species. Many years ago there was no such thing as formula. Women who couldn’t breast feed had wet nurses or they used the milk of another mammal to feed their babies.
Let’s not forget that the milk you drink from a cow came from the breast of that cow. So far we have not found an alternate way to get milk from a cow or any milk producing animal but to extract it from the breast.
Breast milk of the species that the mammal is from is always far superior than any other kind of milk, especially soy based formula or any artificial milk product.

While I agree we should not be shamed for breast feeding our children when they are hungry, I don’t think it’s fair to be sad when you see a child being bottled fed. It is a mothers decision for her child on whether to not she chooses to breast feed or bottle feed. In addition to that, you don’t know the circumstances. I was not able to breastfeed my twins because they came early and I did not fully get my milk. It was the doctor that said we needed to supplement until it came. But it never did, what little milk I did get I had to throw out because I nearly died after giving birth and I was given medicines to save my life that would be harmful to my children should they drink it. So I had no choice but to bottle feed.

We are asking not to be judged for breastfeeding our children in public, we should also not be judged for bottle feeding either. One never knows the circumstances.

No, James, that’s not how it works. A woman grabbing your nipples without your consent is sexual harassment and should be treated as such. You not reporting it is your own mistake. That’s just as bad as saying “a woman forced herself on me when I was drugged and paralyzed, and I didnt go to the police so women shouldn’t when they’re raped either.”

Are you sure this comment is serious? I’ll assume it is. When a baby is hungry, all it knows is distress. Babies lack the capacity for delayed gratification, nor do they understand that they’ll be fed later when it’s more convenient. In their psyche, it’s a life threatening situation. So they scream. Very loud. Any decent mother would allieviate their baby’s suffering right away. It is critical, yes.
Numerous health studies prove that people who were breast-fed as babies are healthier as adults. And breastfed babies have:
less chance of diarrhoea and vomiting and having to go to hospital as a result
fewer chest and ear infections and fewer visits to hospital as a result
    less chance of being constipated
less likelihood of becoming obese and therefore developing type 2 diabetes and other obesity-related illnesses later in life.
More information is just a google away if you’re really interested or want to check the legitimaacy of those claims.
    Hope that helps.

You hang out in some immensely odd circles as an adult then, I’d say. That kind of shit stops happening somewhere around entering high school for most people.

So if it’s even true, I’d still put the fault squarely on you for hanging out with the groups of people that you’ve chosen to spend your time with. Most adults are (and have friends who are) mature enough not to be tweaking other adults nipples all willy-nilly in public day in and day out.

Breastfeeding is important because it helps boost the baby’s immune system. A mother’s breastmilk contains antibodies that help protect the baby. It’s also just naturally better in regard to nutrition. Formula is created with cow milk. You wouldn’t give a calf human breastmilk because it is not properly formulated to provide maximum nutrition. The same is true of giving a human baby cow milk. The baby will get the nutrition it needs to survive, and even thrive, but it is also heavy in sugars and can contribute to excessive weight gain.

Breastfeeding can be a challenge for many moms and babies. My own daughter could not feed on a bare nipple-I had to use a plastic guard for her to be able to latch on. This meant that I had to hold on to a squirming, screaming infant while holding the guard in place and holding her up until she latched on. This resulted in a higher than average level of nipple exposure for me, but it also made it impossible for me to use a cover, as I had to watch to make sure the guard didn’t slip and reposition as needed. Since my daughter was premature, it was especially important that I breastfeed in order to ensure maximum benefits to her health. Oh, and there was also the fact that I was too poor to buy formula and breastmilk is free.

Most babies also don’t tolerate a cover very well, and it can be a highly frustrating experience for both mother and baby to try to keep them under a blanket to feed. A lot of babies even rip the cover off. In hot weather, covers can even be dangerous, overheating mom and baby and restrict airflow during feeding, when airflow is already restricted.

Now, with the above information in mind, remember that breastfeeding is recommended for the first two years of life. Most women don’t bother with it for that long, but a great many go at least one year. Can you imagine having to go through all this every few hours, every day, for a year or more? Because if the conservatives have their way, the choices women will be faced with are 1) Fight the baby through every feed, 2) don’t leave the house for a whole year or more, or 3) compromise the baby’s health for some freedom.

None of these choices are in the best interests of the baby or the mom. I for one do not want a new family’s health and comfort disregarded in the name of squeamishness.

Men showing nipples is always sexual, to project a sexuality…to show body, form and posture off for females or other males.
The Male breast serves no other function than sexual.
Women feeding an infant is feeding an infant…If you try to sexualize that you are including the infant feeding as a sexual act and you are therefore a pervert.
A feeding infant…is an infant being fed…that’s it. That’s all.

Breastfeeding reduces the risk of childhood obesity, leukaemia, juvenile diabetes, hearing problems, depression, and many other health risks that develop in childhood and later in life. Formula, while providing the necessary vitamins and minerals do not. Plus studies have shown the time spend bonding while breastfeeding positively affects a child’s emotional wellbeing- for example, kids who have been breastfed have less separation anxiety during school years.

I’d be obliged to answer some of your questions, though this answer will not be exhaustive.

The nutritional value of breastmilk is far superior to formula. It provides not only nourishment, but also immunity to our babies. Those of us who are very natural-minded in our approach to raising babies will tend to favor things such as: breastfeeding on demand (not on a schedule), breastfeeding until age 2 or beyond, not supplementing with formula, only feeding from the breast and not pumping and bottle feeding. The benefits of such things are too many to type in a comment, but suffice it to say that I personally do these things for many reasons, including my baby’s health, my breast health (preventing engorgement and mastitis, which is a very painful breast infection), and for my own convenience. Can you imagine being cooped up at home until you stop breast feeding? Can you imagine doing that with other children, or having babies every couple years back to back? I just had my fourth baby. She is 6 weeks old. My other children are 7, 6, and 2. Life continues whether you are breastfeeding a baby or not, and there is no way to avoid being in public each time your baby needs to eat.

As an example, just one day of running errands may include the grocery store, the post office, the gas station, the library, etc. If I only went grocery shopping and nowhere else, we’re talking about a 40-minute round trip in travel time, and at least an hour in the store, if not longer. Try doing that with 4 kids. And if the baby gets hungry, do I abandon the cart and haul 4 children off to the car or bathroom? No, I carry my baby in a sling and feed her while shopping. Another example is eating. When we run errands or travel to the doctor or dentist, I take my kids to Chick-fil-A as an occasional treat. When we’re all eating and the baby starts fussing to eat, do I take all my kids out to the car or to the bathroom with me? Do I let all that food get cold or go to waste? Why would I inconvenience myself when I can just feed her at the table while we all continue to eat?

And again, I don’t pump. I don’t even own one. The pump was the number one cause of the worst engorgement and mastitis I’ve ever had in my life. Think about it…the baby cries and the mother has let down (the milk ducts starting to flow as your body gets ready to feed the baby), and then she gets out the bottle to feed the baby. What happens here? Well, if you have pumped milk, you have to stop what you’re doing and find hot water to heat the milk. You can’t use the microwave. Oh, and let’s not forget that you’d have had to keep the milk refrigerated, or at least cold with an ice pack while you were out. You would also need warm water for the bottle, or a pre-mixed bottle would need to be heated, and also not in a microwave. Then, the mother feeds the baby with the bottle while her breasts remain full of milk. This leads to engorgement, which can lead to clogged milk ducts and mastitis. Also, the production of milk is based on supply and demand. If you are pumping in addition to breastfeeding, your body is tricked into thinking the baby needs that much milk, and continues to supply more. Again, this leads to engorgement.

Now, think about the pure simplicity and beauty of a baby getting hungry and the mother providing the perfect food at the perfect temperature and in the perfect amount to prevent the mother from having any discomfort or infection of the breasts. That’s much easier, isn’t it? And much more convenient. And much more natural (if that’s your prerogative, as it is mine).

I felt like this when I was nursing my first born. Now I’m a mom of 3 and I have nursed all 3 of my babies. I decided eff what everyone else thinks. I’m not retreating to some disgusting bathroom or my hot car to nurse my baby. I started wearing a cami under my shirts so I could just lift my tshirt, and slide the cami down and nothing shows! And even if it did, it’s still a hell of a lot less than skimpy beach bikinis everyone else is wearing. Don’t feel like you have to be a shut in or pump and walk around uncomfortable with engorged breasts because some people are too narrow minded to see breastfeeding for what it is… just feeding a hungry baby in the most natural way possible.

    January 3, 2016 at 3:19 pm

Cannot agree more with you. I breastfed both of my kids, although, I had an easier time of it with my second (a girl), who absolutely would not take a bottle until she was nearly eleven months old. Breastfeeding a child should not be a shameful thing to do, as it was the only way to do it long before plastic and glass bottles and rubber nipples came into existence. Don’t feel ashamed. It is your right to feed your child when he or she is hungry. And if someone decides to stare or whatever, tell them loudly to take a good long look at the baby feeding, it freaks them out when people are noticing them being absolute pricks and prudes. Don’t ever feel like you can’t go anywhere, be strong. 🙂

    Kyle,

There are numerous benefits to breastfeeding, that bottle feedings just don’t offer. Here’s a good place for you to start:

    https://www.google.com/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8#q=breast%20vs%20bottle

    1) No cost, all-inclusive feeding system already built-in by natural design

    2) A physical bonding experience between you and your child that a bottle can’t provide

    3) Natural antibodies and antigens in breast-milk that formula can’t replicate.

    4) Breast-milk boosts the child’s immune system and helps develop natural resistance to allergens

    5) Breast-milk is the correct particle size, consistency, vitamin, mineral and protein make up and temperature for immediate digestion by the child.

And so many more that I’ll let you research for yourself.

As far as “when is so critical to do this..”? Most infants need to feed every few hours, especially for the first few months of life, so it’s critical to do this whenever the child is hungry. Preferably for at least the first 18 months of the child’s life, but can be continued longer – up to 4 years is actually the world average.

If you wouldn’t expect any other mammal to go to the store and buy formula to feed their offspring, why would you expect it of humans? I cannot fathom why breastfeeding ever fell out of favor or why so many doctors are still pushing the bottle over the breast. There is nothing more natural, wholesome and just plain right, than a mother feeding her child by her biologically given means.

Kyle, formula will never be a true replacement for a mother’s milk. Yes it provides many of the same nutrients, but only in a mother’s milk do we find a lot of the things that cause an immune system boost in the little one. Breast milk provides the child access to the immunities to many diseases that the mother has been accumulating most of her life, making it less likely the child will catch a cold or get sick from a trace amount of bacteria. It’s healthier and more natural. It also doesn’t have the preservatives and other chemicals that are within many formulas that babies really don’t need in their bodies. Also, for some mothers it boils down to finances. Milk is something your body produces naturally. Formula, however, is expensive and it’s hard to know if your child may or may not be allergic to some of the ingredients found within. Does that help answer your question?

Rep. Bouldin was mistaken in saying the GOP was trying to ban breastfeeding in public, and she later acknowledged that.

That’s why this bozo started his idiotic post by saying, “Who doesn’t support a mother’s right to feed?”

  210. Jennifer Newmark

    January 3, 2016 at 3:47 pm

Kyle, babies don’t have “wants”. They are not manipulative. If they are hungry, they need to be fed. Human breast milk contains the perfect balance of fats, amino acids, vitamins, etc. for human babies. It helps the baby’s initial (and continued) resistance to disease and allergens. Breastfed babies are less likely to be sick or to have allergies — and in some cases, formula can trigger allergies, especially to cow’s milk, which is what is used to make it.

In addition, breast milk is immediately the right temperature. It’s never spoiled. It doesn’t have to be mixed with water. And for some babies, there is no reasonable substitute. My premie daughter threw up every brand and type of formula on the market. The only thing she could reliably digest was breast milk.

The logic of this man’s argument assumes that sexual urges are as high of a biological priority as getting food is. This is not the case. Therefore, a baby’s need to get food is a different matter than a man getting sexual satisfaction.

I don’t eat in the bathroom, so your baby shouldn’t have to either. For me personally there is nothing sexual in breast feeding, and I believe if people get offended by this then they just need to get over it, it’s a natural thing. These are people would complain if you didn’t feed your baby and let them cry.

  214. Alyssa (@buttscar)

    January 3, 2016 at 4:30 pm

    1. Breast milk is healthier for babies than formula. The mother’s body automatically changes fat to water content based on baby’s needs. Formula can not replicate this. Also breast milk shares mother’s antibodies with baby helping baby from becoming sick. Once again, this can not be replicated with formula.
    2. Mother can pump her milk and bottle feed if she so chooses. However, this represents twice the amount of work (as she must both pump the milk and bottle feed baby rather than just feed baby). Plus she has to worry about properly supporting said milk so it doesn’t go bad, which can be difficult if she’s out for a long period of time. On top of this, there is the issue of breast pumps being expensive, painful, time consuming, etc.
    3. While it’s rare, some babies have something called nipple confusion. It means that it’s difficult for baby to switch back and forth between breast and nipple. Bottle feeding does have the potential to impede breast feeding altogether (but it’s uncommon enough that I don’t think new moms should be discouraged from using bottles if they choose).

Tl;dr: simply put, breast feeding is the simplest, healthiest way for a mother to feed her baby.

I never had kids so I’m trying to look at this without the emotional ties. Yes, breastfeeding is natural. However, whether we like it or not, breasts are considered sexual organs as well. Heck, I follow a blog of a woman with kids and she admitted that while she was pregnant AND breastfeeding at the same time, she had to stop because she actually became aroused and didn’t like that feeling. You can’t pretend the sexual part of breasts doesn’t exist. If you are in public breastfeeding and a man (or a woman) sees a nipple they may stare. I’m not saying it’s right, it’s just how it is. Before you began breastfeeding your breasts were probably part of your, um “love life”. Now suddenly they are objects for feeding babies – but that doesn’t mean the rest of the world will see it that way. They should, but we’ve sexualized breasts so much that it’s become second nature. By the way, I myself no longer have real breasts due to cancer, I’m coming from a whole different perspective!

  216. Alyssa (@buttscar)

No one has the right to touch you in a way that you don’t consent to. If someone touches you in a way that is painful or you don’t like, you have the right to tell them to stop (and you can tell them to stop without making a big production out of it). If they don’t stop, then yes, this is harassment.
I’m sorry if you have shitty friends/family who aren’t respectful enough to stop doing something annoying when asked.

It like the difference between farm fresh milk straight from the cow and a gallon from the store it’s all organic not only that when a mother breastfeeds her child the mother is giving the baby some of her immune system benifits along with the bonding experience the most important time to breastfeed the child is the first 2 months that when the mother can provide the most essential nutrients to the baby. And young babies eat quite a lot like every 3 hours until there like 3 months then it spaces out a bit over time and as I was a breastfeeding mother I can tell you that you can’t always get some where private to feed your baby hey you need to eat to and not all places have a place you can go to feed your baby it sucks

Kyle, breast milk has huge benefits over formula in that it helps to build the infants immune system – the infant gets antibodies from the mother that project the child from disease. Breast feeding also encourages bonding (the skin to skin contact is hugely important, especially for preemies but really for every child).

Formula is fine, but it doesn’t exactly match the composition of breast milk and there is still a whole lot we don’t understand about infant nutrition, so where possible it’s best to use the system that evolution has spent millions of years getting just right.

Breast milk also has huge benefits in that it is free (formula is expensive!) and doesn’t rely on a supply of clean water, or somewhere to sterilise bottles, or somewhere to warm the bottle before feeding. It means a baby can be fed anywhere and at any time, with minimal fuss.

You can find plenty of information on breastfeeding and why it’s important by searching online or looking for books in your local library. There’s a wealth of information out there and it’s important to remember that it’s not the role of women (or anyone else) to educate you. If you really want to know, you can choose to educate yourself, and I really hope that you can use the info above as a jumping off point to learn more!

    January 3, 2016 at 5:51 pm

This is a wonderful question! Formula is a fine substitute, but if you want the absolute best for your baby you would want to breastfeed. Breast milk provides antibodies against viruses/infections that formula will never be able to provide. Breastfeed babies are also less likely to develop allergies/asthma, thanks to the antibodies. It is also significantly easier on the digestive system for most babies. Besides it being healthier for the child, it is a cheaper and significantly more convenient option. Formula can run at about $16+ per can, and you need multiple cans per month. If your baby has special health needs, then formula prices will only go up. Overall, breastfeeding is truly the best option. There are extensive health benefits for the mother as well. I could go on and on, but I hope this gave you a little more insight! 🙂

If you breastfeed, it is physically uncomfortable to miss a feeding. For both mom and baby.
So far as the physiological benefits of breastfeeding, it improves immune function for the baby and lowers the cancer risk for both baby and mother.
It also has been linked to a lower risk of obesity, diabetes, and hypertension in the baby up to the age of 30, an increase of 10 to 12 points in IQ on average at age 10, and a lower risk of food allergies.

Breastmilk contains antibodies that help protect the baby from the germs in the local environment. Breastmilk also changes its fat composition as the baby grows, so it’s more likely to match the baby’s nutritional needs than any formula. Also, formula may be contaminated or spoiled, which is highly unlikely or impossible to happen to breastmilk.

    January 3, 2016 at 7:08 pm

I am nursing my fourth baby. Anytime she is hungry, it is critical to feed her immediately. It’s also critical to nurse when the mother is engorged (very full with milk) as it is painful and increases the risk of mastitis (breast infection). Personally, I wouldn’t mind pumping milk to take with me when we are out, but none of my children have ever taken a bottle. I have three other children and can’t keep them at home with me all day just because I’m nursing or drag them all to a private place if we are out and the baby needs to nurse. I do my best to be discreet and wear clothing that facilitates nursing discreetly, but it is not always the easiest thing to feed a squirming infant in a busy place.

Breast milk provides antibodies that formula does not. It also has the benefit of changing in physical makeup according to the age of the baby so that it is tailored to what nutrients the baby needs at that specific time.

Here are some of the many benefits of breastfeeding:

Fighting infections and other conditions. Breastfed babies have fewer infections and hospitalizations than formula-fed infants. During breastfeeding, antibodies and other germ-fighting factors pass from a mother to her baby and strengthen the immune system. This helps lower a baby’s chances of getting many infections, including:

    ear infections
    diarrhea
    respiratory infections
    meningitis
Breastfeeding also may protect babies against:

    allergies
    asthma
    diabetes
    obesity
    sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS)
Breastfeeding is particularly beneficial for premature babies.

Nutrition and ease of digestion. Often called the “perfect food” for a human baby’s digestive system, breast milk’s components — lactose, protein (whey and casein), and fat — are easily digested by a newborn.

As a group, breastfed infants have less difficulty with digestion than do formula-fed infants. Breast milk tends to be more easily digested so that breastfed babies have fewer bouts of diarrhea or constipation.

Breast milk also naturally contains many of the vitamins and minerals that a newborn requires. One exception is vitamin D — the AAP recommends that all breastfed babies begin receiving vitamin D supplements during the first 2 months and continuing until a baby consumes enough vitamin D-fortified formula or milk (after 1 year of age).

James~ You have every right to tell those who have grabbed your nipples in the past to stop and that there are consequences for not respecting your body. How does that compare to this topic? Why shouldn’t a man charge a woman for assault if and when they don’t stop? It seems you are making a point from something that still bothers you because you never stood up for yourself. I don’t think you respected yourself in those moments and like many women I know, took it in stride and are still affected by the fact that they allowed people to continue behaviour that was unacceptable. I am sorry that happened to you. I hope that you have the courage to speak out next time…as it seems that this problem in particular has happened to you an awful lot.

Kyle, human breast milk is the ideal food for a human baby. It contains macro nutrients in precisely the correct proportions. A mother’s immune system reacts to the baby’s saliva to provide antibodies through breastmilk, which is why breastfed babies have fewer respiratory and GI infections. It changes in composition as the baby grows, so the baby can still drink the same amount and still get the perfect nutrients.

Formula doesn’t change with a baby’s health or growth. It is an alternative to breast milk that approximates breast milk as well as is possible. It is a lifesaver for mothers who have lactation challenges, but it cannot offer what breastmilk offers.

All you have to do Kyle is read up on medical journals or magazines like today;s Parent. Breast feeding an infant gets them off to a better start in life, produces natural antibodies and promotes a strong bond between mother and child. Formulas are fine if breastfeeding isn’t an option or personal choice but they do not have all the nutritional values of breast milk. When I was nursing my eldest son, the hospital asked me to come in several times a day to express my milk to use for the premies on the ward. It’s so nice to see someone actually want to understand. Thank you.

Are you actually, truly serious? First, formula does not protect an infant’s immune system as breast milk does. Next, why do you care? Nearly every commercial is filled with sexual innuendo (especially including breasts) and no one has an issue with it, but when you use them for their biological intent everyone loses their minds. Imagine being sent to a lousy, smelly, dirty, nasty place in which you are expected to feed your child. Imagine if you were in that position instead and had to eat your dinner in the same conditions. Imagine being trapped under a hot, suffocating blanket so that strangers won’t be upset at the fact that your tummy is rumbling and needs lunch. Now, imagine being that mother who has to try to handle all that and tell her baby that it’s okay, when she knows full well that it isn’t. Nursing is natural. It’s a bonding experience that will establish a connection between mother and child for a lifetime. If you are offended, don’t watch commercials or beauty pageants or basically any t.v. because that’s likely to show more of a breast than nursing will. I hope that puts things more in perspective.

I read the entire bill and I have to say that I still agree with Bouldin. A law like this if passed would be unconstitutional as it discriminates against women based solely on their gender why should it be okay for a man to be topless and show his nipples and areola but is not okay for women to do the same. Breasts are not sex organs but rather are secondary sex characteristics. Yes granted there are some studies that claim that female breasts double as sex organs however these same studies have neglected to test men’s breasts(nipples, areolas).

I’m not inclined to penalize any mother for the way she chooses to feed her child – be it breast or bottle. However, for those who think it’s okay to stare and grab a mother’s breast, or any breast for that matter, just because it’s there is childish. You are not given permission to sexually harass a woman for any reason.

Breastmilk contains true proteins and antibodies that aren’t and can’t be replicated in formula (they’ve been trying for decades to make a complete formula). Many babies can’t tolerate formula. The antibodies and nutrients in breastmilk help to build strong immune systems. Children who are breast-fed tend to have fewer stomach issues, fewer upper respiratory infections, and some studies have shown better growth and learning. Because babies are growing at a rapid rate, they need regular feedings. When a baby is hungry, they just can’t “wait awhile” for a mother to be in a more discreet place. Babies can dehydrate quickly and their blood sugar can plummet to dangerous levels. The average newborn eats every two hours. Women who have to always worry about upsetting everyone’s sensibilities would literally never be able to leave the house if they couldn’t breastfeed in public.

while I understand your point Clover there is no comparison nor can there be between circumcision of boys shortly after birth and actual female genital mutilation. Please look it up before you dare to compare these practices. Female genital mutilation includes the removal the cutting off of the clitoris the clitoral hood, the outer labia. This also includes sewing the inner labia together and only leaving a very small hole for secretion of menstrual blood etc. Male circumcision is a decision made by the parents of boys if they choose to do so this circumcision usually occurs within 3 to 10 days after the birth of a male child. Female genital mutilation can frequently occur between infancy and the age of 15. When is it so critical to feed a baby? Anytime the baby is hungry. Infants are actually on a very strict feeding schedule for the first few months of their life, needing to be feed every 2-4 hours or so. Breastmilk is the most nutritional choice for a baby, as all ingredients are natural, and it also helps to prevent infections, chronic diseases, and allergies. There are also many other health benefits for both the baby and the mother that cannot be found with formula.

hi kyle I applaud you wanting to learn more about why breastfeeding is the best thing that mother’s can do for their babies and even men and women who adopt who purchase breast milk for their children. The biggest reason why it is so critical to breastfeed is that human breast milk provides virtually all the protein, sugar, and fat that a baby needs to be healthy, and it also contains many substances that benefit a baby’s immune system, including antibodies, immune factors, enzymes, and white blood cells. These substances protect a baby against a wide variety of diseases and infections not only while he/she is breastfeeding but in some cases long after he/she has weaned. Formula cannot offer this protection

You feed your child when he or she is hungry. That varies depending on age. For newborns it is every couple of hours. For older babies, a little less frequently. Babies are typically breast fed from 1-2 (or even 3) years of age in most parts of the world, but in the U.S. it is often only for 6-12 months. Most pediatricians agree that at least one full year is best.

Breast milk has been said by every pediatrician to be the best option for babies. It offers natural enzymes that help with immune system development that cannot be duplicated in formula.

By the way, all of this is easily googled. Lazy ass.

While formula feeding is a viable option and should never be frowned upon if the child is being fed enough, it is a far cry from breast milk. Breast milk contains many nutrients and antibodies that vary with every feeding based on what a child may need. If the mother is sick, her body will automatically produce milk with antibodies to keep her baby healthy. Also, breast milk matures as the child ages, allowing them to get different nutrients as their growing body needs. Formula does not do this. Breastfeeding also severely reduces the chances of a baby becoming diabetic, obese, and asthmatic later in life, not to mention has been proven to decrease the risk of SIDS and SUDC greatly. It also is very economic for struggling families. A child can be fed for free for the first six months of life when a mother breastfeeds, and even after solid foods are introduced, breastfeeding can still supplement meals as needed. Even if a mother is not getting enough to eat herself, her body will produce enough high quality milk for her baby to survive. On top of all of this, breastfed children go on to usually have higher IQs for their demographic, meaning that if they came from a poorer family (a demographic usually associated with low to average IQs) their mothers milk may be enough to get them to pursue higher education! I could go on and on about the benefits of breastfeeding (obviously), but this covers my favorite points. Thanks for truly wanting to understand the issue 🙂

  275. Cassandra Beecher

    January 3, 2016 at 10:50 pm

Kyle, women need to breast feed or pump constantly because as the milk builds up, it can be painful and leak. Also, if you don’t continue to consistently do it, your body will stop producing. On top of that, if you’re in public and your baby is crying and hungry, people complain about a crying baby. Then suddenly when you feed them, people complain about seeing breasts. They can’t seem to win, but of course they’re baby is going to come first. These are just a couple reasons why it’s imperative to breast feed as soon as possible.

I’ve been there, Samantha, more than thirty years ago! There are some parts of the country where you can now breastfeed in public without being molested, but it certainly is frustrating dealing with the idiocy. Breasts seem to be very threatening to some people, perhaps because it is so powerful to be able to nurture your child so perfectly. And some men think they should control women, especially the parts they find enticing. Stay strong; you’ll be so happy to be able to tell yourself you gave your child the very best.

An Open Letter To Rep. Josh Moore –

    Dear Mr. Moore,
I totally agree with you about women breastfeeding in public and that a man should be able to grab their breasts if they see such an act being committed. But conversely, I would like the right to go into a public men’s room and grab any penises I might see at the urinals, without any homophobic slurs or acts of violence from the owners of those penises. After all, if you don’t want to be grouped by another man, you could always use the stalls – just be sure you close and lock the door, otherwise I may sneak up behind you and grab your penis. And oh, how many times I’ve wanted to do these things, but haven’t so far because there are these stupid laws against such acts, I think it’s called sexual harassment, or would it be sexual assault, I don’t know lol, I’m not as smart as you! But hey, if you don’t want a perverted, violating act committed against you, then don’t whip it out and tempt me, am I right? I mean, that’s what we going for with this whole breastfeeding in public thing, isn’t it? Come on, we’re men, we can’t help seeing the human form purely in a sexual manner! Please let me know if such things will be allowed in New Hampshire because if they are, I am so there!

My hands eagerly await your reply!

Infants are hungry almost constantly, to have to find a hiding place that frequently, and usually a stinky germ covered bathroom is the place available for your child to eat in, it’s not the healthiest for the chile and it’s embarrassing and unpleasant for the mother.

Being from the mother they’re getting things like antibodies and such from the mom for things the child came into contact with in the world that weren’t passed along in the womb. It helps them to fight new germs like the common cold.

That is a public health issue. I am sure most people would have a problem with with women expressing their milk/body fluid all over the street…not that any woman would do that…it is too difficult to make. As a grown man you have some self control…one would hope. Babies should not go hungry.

  283. Melissa

    January 4, 2016 at 4:25 am

Kyle – cool of you to try to understand this issue better. Women choose to breastfeed their babies for many reasons:
    – formula is crazy expensive (like $30 a can), requires a bunch of equipment like bottles, non-flouridated water, so on. You can’t ever, EVER run out, or baby can’t eat. Breastfeeding doesn’t need any equipment but a blanket to cover with if you so choose.
    – babies on formula eat ever 3 hours or so, breastfed babies about every 2. Try going anywhere and getting anything done while having to stop every 2 hours and find a private spot, for like a good half hour! And heaven help you if you have other small children in tow.
    – when babies are hungry, they are hungry. You have to feed them right then. They don’t wait, they cry. A baby who is crying from hunger causes almost physically pain for its mama. And yes, we can tell the difference between their cries.
    – some babies have trouble digesting formula. The special kinds of formula for that cost even more. Babies easily digest breast milk, as it is the food perfectly designed for for them.
    – breast milk confers immunity to some viruses, so on. There are many beneficial substances in breast milk that can’t be replicated in a lab. For example, I accidentally got some milk in my baby’s eye one time – (it can squirt them when they let go). Fixed her goopy eye right up. Like, immediately.
    – breast milk can take on the flavors of some foods, so it doesn’t always taste exactly the same, like formula does. Some women believe that breast fed babies will eat a wider variety of foods later as a result.
    – it is hard to mix both formula and breast feeding. If you skip nursing to give baby a bottle of formula, then you are going like 5 hours between feedings when you are used to going 2. That leads to leaks and too full breasts, which hurts! It can also hurt milk supply, as the mother’s body produces milk in the quantity that is needed. If baby is going to have a growth spurt and eats like crazy, mom’s body responds with more milk.
    – the kind of milk produced responds to baby nursing, too. If the baby is just thirsty, they will get the lighter milk, if they are hungry, they will get the richer milk. It is based on how they nurse.

So, way more to it than you’d think!

  284. Natalie

    January 4, 2016 at 5:03 am

Breastmilk is natural. Natural foods are better for the body. Google it if you’re having trouble with that part of it. Additionally many baby formulas are riddled with GMOs. Again, look that up if you need more clarification about why you wouldn’t want to give that to a baby.

And I’m guessing you have never had an infant of your own because when a baby is hungry, the baby is hungry right then. And it is critical to feed the baby as soon as possible. Not sure if you’re suggesting that a child should be forced to go hungry and wait for a more convenient time to eat?

I actually applaud him. He was wrong in a way yes by the way he said it, but in another ya’ll don’t see the irony at all. Most women who breastfeed in public either do it for attention, or they don’t give a care what anybody else thinks and are disrespectful to those who do care. If he was saying it in a nice way all he’d be saying is if ya’ll can feed your baby in public and not cover up and be disrespectful to those around you then why can he not be disrespectful as well? Ya’ll pretty much handed it to him when he and everyone else has to see you breastfeed your baby if you refuse to cover up and/or go somewhere non public to feed him/her. It’s not hard to understand and I’m not even a guy.

Kyle, One of the defining features of being a mammal is a mother producing milk to feed her children. That is how we are biologically programmed, and the whole reason women have developed breast tissue and men don’t. Formula, granted, is a sufficient source of nutrition for infants. However, female bodies are made to produce milk (the science of breast milk is still fuzzy and we do not know everything that comprises it) and is obviously a superior food source. Also, a woman’s breast milk evolves over time to accommodate the nutritional requirements of her growing baby. Did you know that while a baby breastfeeds, any bacteria, viruses, etc the baby is fighting off will pass through the nipple into the mother and her body will start producing antibodies in her milk for her child? Did you know that breast milk can mean the difference between life and death with pre-mature babies since it discourages the growth of harmful gut bacteria? The other consideration is cost. Have you ever bought formula. One can is $20. I formula fed 2 of my 4 kids and the formula babies would go through close to $100 worth in a month or so. There is also a convenience factor. When you have a baby who is hot/hungry/upset/screaming their head off which is easier? Finding clean water and mixing a bottle, then finding a place to feed them? Or sitting down and lifting your shirt? Despite all of these points, the most important one to breastfed mothers is, it is our right as mothers to feed our babies in the manner we are biologically made to. This isn’t some new, crazy baby diet. All mammals, everywhere, ever have used their breasts to feed their babies. We find it silly and frustrating that we are constantly told that we are dirty whores asking to be harassed simply for feeding a baby. These women aren’t going around waving their nipples is peoples’ faces. They are just overworked, exhausted mothers trying to live their lives, raise their families, juggle responsibilities, and feed their babies what they feel is best.

If that is so then how come babies are born naked and we cloth them? And it’s kinda hard to “stay out of their moment” when they are breastfeeding them in Church or at a dinner table in a pubic restaurant where ppl are trying to eat. And it is frowned upon and should be grounds on PDA. Just like ppl don’t want to see others kissing or having sex in public, ppl also do not want to have to look at someone who refuses to cover up there baby because they clearly don’t care. Especially in front of perverts,

My daughter is allergic to soy and dairy to the point that we are worried about anaphylaxis. All formula, even the “hypoallergenic” ones, contain one or both. So, breastfeeding isn’t a choice, it’s the only way my daughter can stay alive. When my son was in the NICU, I was told that I could either pump and give him my milk, or they would give him donor milk. The only time they used formula was to add it to breastmilk to make it more calorie-dense.

Breastmilk contains live cells. It is exactly what a baby/toddler/young child needs. Why are we okay drinking cows’ breastmilk but not okay with letting our babies drink milk made specifically for them?

By the way, I love how you asked your question. It was very respectful! Oh, and I have nothing against formula- my son was both breastfed and formula fed. I believe breastmilk is the better choice, but formula isn’t evil by any means.

Kyle, it is critical because if the baby is hungry, he or she needs to be fed at that time. A baby eats and metabolizes food at her own rate. She can’t just be fed three orderly timed meals a day. A mother’s body is also tuned in to her baby. For many women, when the baby starts to cry or is ready to eat, her breasts will start to leak the milk, so she really needs to nurse at that time. If the breasts become too engorged with milk and the mother does not feed her baby, it also becomes very painful for the mother. Breastmilk is far superior to formula. It has antibodies from the mother and nutrients that science just cannot duplicate. It is also a great bonding experience. It is family values at its finest… the best nutrition a mother can give her child to be a healthy baby and bonding time. Studies have even shown that breast feeding benefits a mother’s health and the baby’s health even into adulthood.

    January 4, 2016 at 6:48 am

Breastmilk is generally acknowledged as the best stuff to feed a baby. It helps pass on the mother’s immunities to the child and is nutritionally balanced, even changing in its composition over time to suit the needs of the growing baby. It builds a powerful emotional connection between mother and child, and helps women’s bodies recover from the dramatic changes of pregnancy and childbirth. Many women report that they feel less postpartum depression when they breastfeed. Breastfeeding is also practical: it’s far more convenient (you have all the necessary equipment with you all the time) and it’s more economical. So, there are tangible benefits to both mother and child.

As for why it’s critical to breastfeed in public, well, infants need to eat approximately every two to three hours. Think of everything you have to/want to do in a week, then imagine building your life around spending 30 of every 120 minutes at home breastfeeding. You can use an uncomfortable pump to extract the milk from your breasts, and then give it to your child in a bottle, but a. you still have to find a discrete place where you can plug in the pump and disappear for half an hour or so at a time, and b. using the pump may deplete your milk supply, reducing the overall time you can pass on the substantial benefits of breastmilk to your baby (breastmilk is use-it-or-lose-it: if you don’t breastfeed, your milk supply dwindles). Last point: Many babies don’t respond well to being fed under a cover (just as you probably don’t prefer to eat with your dinner napkin over your head), pushing it off so that their faces and part of their mothers’ breasts are exposed. When women don’t use nursing covers, this is often why.

  295. Be Realistic

    January 4, 2016 at 6:51 am

Women should have the decency and common sense to not be the center of attention when they breastfeed in public. You don’t need to flaunt what you are doing to everyone.

But that doesn’t mean that there needs to be a law made against breast feeding either. This is typical of an American political argument. The side with common sense has one or two people that can’t be bothered with a small towel or turning to face the other way – while the other side has no common sense at all and is lead by some moronic, repressed Jesus freak who shouldn’t be making public policy in the first place.

It is a sad state of affairs that so many people don’t understand how breastfeeding works and its importance.
First off babies (especially newborns) need to eat very often. A two week old has a stomach the size of a ping pong ball and therefore needs to eat often. Typically every hour or two during the day. What’s more, babies don’t understand time or have patience, they operate almost completely on instinct in the beginning. There is no “oh I’m sorry wailing hungry baby but you will have to wait until I find a private place or get home to feed you.” That baby is hungry when it’s hungry and cannot comprehend why mom isn’t feeding RIGHT NOW.
As to formula, there are so many differences I don’t have time to name them all. Breast milk is natures perfect food for babies. It gives them exactly what they need in the right amount. It is always ready and the correct temperature. It changes with the baby as they grow to give them what they need to thrive. Babies receive antibodies in breast milk that help keep them from getting sick.
Formula on the other hand is at best a bad copy of what we think breast milk is. But breast milk is so complex we don’t even understand all of its components there is no way we can duplicate that. It doesn’t support and nourish a baby’s immune system. And almost every available formula in the US has GMO’s in them. Not to mention pesticide residue and other chemicals that are introduced through the manufacturing process.
But most importantly formula prevents breastfeeding. Breastfeeding works by supply and demand. If you start feeding baby formula while you are out so as not to “offend” people then you are decreasing the demand for breast milk. This causes your milk supply to drop. If you keep it up than you will have to give formula because you body won’t make enough due to lack of demand.
Finally, formula feeding is extra work that isn’t necessary. To formula feed you have to lug around bottles and formula, you have to find a way to warm it once its prepared. Have you seen the diaper bag most moms have to lug around? No one should feel that they have to carry around even more stuff just so they won’t possibly maybe offend some stranger.
I should also add that there is a link between formula feeding and obesity. Clearly not something that our country needs more of.

1.Breastfeeding is most important in the first 6 months of a child’s life but is recommended to be continued for the first few years.
2.Breast milk contains antibodies that help your baby fight off viruses and bacteria. Breast milk has the ability to change for the needs of the baby for when they are sick and as they grow older and need different things in the diet. (i.e. all of the baby’s nutrition comes from the mother at first, but once the baby starts eating different foods the mothers body recognizes and alters the milk to better fit his/her needs) Breastfeeding lowers your baby’s risk of having asthma or allergies. Plus, babies who are breastfed exclusively for the first 6 months, without any formula, have fewer ear infections, respiratory illnesses, and bouts of diarrhea.

Kyle, with breastmilk, the baby is getting the same nutrients as the mother. It also helps strengthen the baby’s immunity. The baby is healthier, and has a better chance of weight gain. Formula is good to, it has nutrition in it, however the baby is not getting the same nutrition as it’s mother. They get sick more often, they eat more than they should for the parent or caregiver doesn’t know how much to make in a bottle, whereas a breastfed baby knows when they are full. Plus with formula, the parent, when making the bottle, has to adjust the water to the freight temperature, then add the formula, mix it up and then feed the baby, who has been crying for food the whole time the parent was fixing the bottle vs. a mom who breastfeeds, seeing the cue signs of feeding time, sitting down and feeding the baby right away. I hope this helps a little with the differences of breastfeeding vs. Formula.

Saying Jesus wasn’t real when scientists proved the man did exist is dumb. And yes, he would have been breast fed. All children from that point in time were. Formula didn’t exist. So yes, coming from an atheist, Jesus most likely WAS breastfed. Thank you for pointing that out. Because breastfeeding is natural, it isn’t sexual, the mother isn’t getting turned on or getting her rocks off while breastfeeding, she is simply proving her child with what mothers all around the world for all time have been giving their children. The world’s proven best and healthiest sustenance for an infant. Don’t blame mothers who breastfeed for your ignorance and discomfort. Blame your mum, who obviously didn’t want to take the time from her bottle of wine to care enough for you to breastfeed. I’m talking to you Ker and Patton, and every other boobaphobe out there. Suck it up, stop being a little winey bitch, and don’t look if you don’t wanna see it. That mum is doing what’s best for her child. What have you done to make the world a better place?

Why would people vote these racist men in and yes they are being racist against women. It is a “family” thing to nurse your baby, it is for the health of the baby not to put a show on for the public. A mother should never have to hide to nurse her baby. They have perfectly good cover ups which I see moms use all the time. And to get personal at women is also sexist there are plenty of men out there that go shirtless that should never do that and it can be very offensive to see them like that. How dare men try to pass laws against women are we falling back to the 1800’s? Shame on both of them and shame on the voters who voted them in and I hope this shows they are not responsible enough human beings to be a part of our government.

Breastfeeding is a public health issue, but not in the same way. When children are provided mother’s milk appropriately, per the WHO recommendations, everyone benefits. There is less obesity, cancers, diabetes, allergies, decreased health care costs. All of these are public health issues that breastfeeding impacts therefore it is a public health issue.

Kyle, formula is made from milk of a cow or goat, which, by the way is for baby cows and goats, not baby humans. Formula may have whatever garbage the cow or goat was fed in the milk, such as GMO’s, antibiotics or hormones. Formula has to be altered for human babies to digest as it is not a human milk, which many babies cannot digest and gives them acid reflux which they then have to be given medication for, not so with their mothers milk. Maybe you don’t know this but we humans are mammals and also produce milk for our young, the definition of mammal. The benefits are that the child gets antibodies against disease, all the antibodies that the mother has ever been inoculated against or has had in her life, such as chicken pox, mumps, measles or rubella. The child “bonds” with the mother closer and many other benefits. The mother on the other hand gets hormones that help the womb shrink, or go back to it’s normal size, helps with post birth hormonal changes among other benefits. As to when it is so critical? Anytime the child is hungry. Breast milk is a complete and whole food needing no other suplimentation. Therefore the child needs this to survive and thrive. So it is critical to feed the child whenever and where ever the child needs it. Just like other mammal offspring.

Breast feeding is significantly cheaper than feeding via formula (you don’t have to purchase breast milk). For some women it’s a more convenient and time-saving alternative. Breast feeding is healthier for both mother and child. Breast milk is more nutritious than formula. When breasts fill up with milk after a woman gives birth, it can be a painful experience, or so I’ve been told. I also hear that breast feeding is a great way to lose weight gained from being pregnant.

    All About Breastfeeding
    Copied from Kids Health.org

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulates formula companies to ensure they provide all the necessary nutrients (including vitamin D) in their formulas. Still, commercial formulas can’t completely match breast milk’s exact composition. Why? Because milk is a living substance made by each mother for her individual infant, a process that can’t be duplicated in a factory.

Free. Breast milk doesn’t cost a cent, while the cost of formula quickly adds up. And unless you’re pumping breast milk and giving it to your baby, there’s no need for bottles, nipples, and other supplies that can be costly. Since breastfed babies are less likely to be sick, that may mean they make fewer trips to the doctor’s office, so fewer co-pays and less money are paid for prescriptions and over-the-counter medicines.

Kyle. I would love to explain the differences and the benefits that nursing provides both the mother and child. As a breastfeeding mother of 7 years (3 kids, each 2 to 3 nursing years each), I can tell you the bond alone between a nursing mother and child is much stronger. Breastfeeding also reduces the chances of the mother developing breast cancer. Breastfeeding exclusively reduces the chances of obesity in the child’s future. The bacteria, germs and viruses that the mother is exposed to, the baby receives the immunities through her milk, equaling a healthier child. And sooo many more benefits… Plus have you ever changed the diaper of a baby that is breastfed compared to formula? The difference is huge. It smells so much less when they are breastfed 🙂

There are a ton of other reasons to nurse a child that you can find by doing a little research on Google. Thank you for asking and trying to learn rather than being simple minded like some.

Another point I’ll make for those that care more about the economical things in life than the points above, is the cost. A 24 ounce container of formula cost around $30 (on the low end). That can will make about 25 six ounce bottles, and a baby will drink 6-8 of those bottles in a 24 hour period. So every five days you’re buying a new $30 container. That can get expensive. Over $2000 a year if I did the math right… Not my strong subject, so feel free to correct me if you feel the need.

Breastfeeding offers benefits for mother and child. For the mother, it helps her body recover from child birth, releases hormones to reduce post partum, helps her lose weight, and reduce risks of breast cancer throughout the rest of her life. For the baby, it is nutritionally healthier than formula, less chance of colic, breastmilk provides antibodies produced by the mother’s body to support the baby’s undeveloped immune system, and breastfeeding also reduces risks of cancer and increases IQ the rest of the child’s life. Plus, breastmilk is ready when the baby is, no worries about heating to the right temperature, mixing it, cleaning bottles, etc. And breastfeeding bonds mother and child, emotionally beneficial to both.

  331. Tia

    January 4, 2016 at 2:41 pm

Well apparently the women you hang out with are assholes. There shouldn’t be nipple twiddling unless it’s been verbally approved. That goes for men and women. If it makes you uncomfortable, say something. Tell them to stop. You don’t have to file a police report, but you have the right to say something to these women about it. That aside, you’re an idiot for comparing your being topless because you feel like it, and can, to a woman breastfeeding her child because that baby needs to eat. Women’s breasts were made for breastfeeding. Everything else is just a bonus. Women have been breastfeeding, and breastfeeding in public, for as long as we’ve existed. Expecting women to hide if their baby gets hungry in public, is a recent trend that has only hit a very small portion of the world.

  332. Tia

    January 4, 2016 at 2:57 pm

Unlike adults, babies do not have the ability to wait for food until it’s an appropriate time and place. They also should have the right to eat the way they were designed to, in a restaurant without being expected to eat with a blanket over their head, in a bathroom, in the car, etc. Making women feel ashamed to feed their babies in public, in the way that is natural and comfortable for both mother and baby, is terrible. The double standards for men’s nipples, and women’s nipples are a problem. The fact that women can post a photo of themselves naked, with just nipples and genitals covered, and it’s fine, but a woman posts a photo of herself breastfeeding and it gets taken down immediately, is a problem. Breastmilk is superior to formula in every way. It’s better for babies’ immune systems, body development, brain development, and creates a strong bond between mother and baby. Breastmilk is absolutely incredible. It even gives babies higher IQs. Formula should only be used when absolutely necessary. If a woman is truly unable to breastfeed, that’s when formula comes in. If you truly want to know more about why breastfeeding is so wonderful, and the best option for babies, do some research on your own. There are tons of studies and benefits that are just a Google search away 🙂

So when you click the link you’ll see that this bill EXCLUDES breast feeding in public. The issue being so hotly debated is. Non-issue. The politicians should simply read the bill better before freaking out.

This is the part of the bill in the first section that excludes breast feeding:

2 New Paragraph; Public Indecency; Indecent Exposure and Lewdness; Breast-Feeding Excluded. Amend RSA 645:1 by inserting after paragraph III the following new paragraph:
IV. This section shall not apply to the act of breast-feeding.

Nursing babies is what the breasts are there for.

The milk is better than the mother’s diet (women lose vital nutrients while nursing if careless with diet), always the right temperature and safer than anyones best efforts at keeping the milk free from bacteria outside of breast.

Also, if it works, it’s far easier than lugging bottles and formula around. Oh, and then there’s the matter of close contact, meaning skin to skin, being vital to infants.

I may not live in New Hampshire, but as a woman…I think that a law stating that women can’t breastfeed in public is ludicrous. Why not have men out there who oppose the nourishment of a child, look at young children and tell them they have to starve. Sorry, but I’m sure that there are some of these MORONS who might have been breastfed by their own mothers. For every man that thinks it is perfectly alright to grab a woman’s breast if it is out of their shirt……THAT IS SEXUAL HARASSMENT….feeding a child is not so that you can grope the women. How would you feel if a woman walked up to you in public and grabbed your privates?

The best thing that breastfeeding offers is the antibodies to help protect the baby. It helps them to stay healthy until their immune systems are able to defend them more efficiently. Also lots of babies can’t tolerate formula but don’t have trouble with breast milk. Not to mention much cheaper as well as easier for baby to digest and promotes bonding. I would definitely rather have a restaurant full of moms nursing their babies than one baby crying, or having to have their mom hide in a dirty bathroom to feed, I wouldn’t wanna eat in there and they shouldn’t have to either.

It’s nice that you want to have a better understanding about this. Like Catherine said it has numerous health benefits for the child but some are: helping boost their immune system, lowering the risk of SIDS, and helps the mother and child bond. And let’s not forget the financial benefit to producing ur own food for the child vs. Spending a fortune on formula. Breastfeeding, and even pumping, take dedication by not only the mother but by the people that are around her. You have to make sure you are eating good things to provide your child the right nutrition. And if you work someone has to cover for you while you pump or go home to feed your child. Your milk drops and flows out any time a child cries because your body thinks it’s feeding time, and if you don’t get the milk out on a regular basis your breasts fill up and are very sensitive. Milk ducts can clog and you can get an infection which is also very painful because you have to work out the milk that is clogging the duct. It’s literally like putting pressure on a bruise or sore. Moms bodies are very in tune with the child and only produces enough milk to fill the baby up. So if they are younger they have tiny tummies they need to eat more often. If you skip a feeding your milk production slows and it is less likely that you will be able to increase your supply, thus why women feed in public. Lots and lots of work but we do it for the live we have for our children. .. and sometimes we want to save a few bucks as well 🙂

I can’t believe people even admit to these things privately, never mind say them publicly. American friends had told me it was the case, but I’m still shocked. I did not feel this way feeding either of my children in Australia (or UK). I was out with them from day 1, though it took a little practice to try and do it somewhat modestly (ie not completely bare chested squirting milk everywhere.) But the modesty was for me, not others (no one appeared to care) and the rest was just great for planning future sitcom episodes (I’m sure it’s been done). Grow up, little boys of America. Family values means treating things as normal that are normal, not demonising childhood!

Breast milk is designed by evolution to be a perfect food for a human baby. Research has shown it actually changes over time to meet the baby’s needs as the baby grows. Formula is created by humans from either the milk of another animal (cow) or from a plant (soy), and although formula creators think they have all the proper components, it lacks some of the non-chemical things (like antibodies to illness) that nature adds through the mother; also, they keep discovering new things that hadn’t been added before, or that they had been adding that turned out to be not as healthy as they had thought (like the sugar content – which in human milk is lactose, not sucrose.)

Good for you for taking care of your baby and yourself! I remember with my first baby (27 years ago!) feeling the same way that you are feeling about nursing in public. With time and more experience and more babies it got easier, to the point that I was able to nurse while pushing a shopping cart, teaching piano lessons, and even playing the trumpet in our church orchestra! While it isn’t fun having to put up with other people’s weirdness, one thing that may help is to think of the important lesson in how to care for babies that you are providing to all the children that may see you nursing. Hanging out with your breastfeeding friends may help, too. It’s easier to handle uncomfortable looks and comments if you have a buddy – and hopefully you’ll be having so much fun you won’t even notice if it happens!

Ladies and gentlemen. I breast fed my baby in public simply by covering a baby blanket over my shoulder and latching my son. He was quiet and no one ever noticed except once in a restaurant the manager was kind enough to ask if the temperature was too cold for the child. I said no. He is just sleeping. However, for the mothers who wish to expose themselves, it should be allowed in public as long as you don’t impose on other peoples comfort level. Just be courteous. OH…God Bless the breast fed children. Remember, God gave us the ability to do that:)

Thank you for trying to understand, Kyle. Here are some of the benefits of breast milk and breast feeding:

~For most babies, it’s easier to digest than formula, which means less gas, constipation, diarrhea, etc.
~It has many antibodies that formulas don’t have that protect a baby from diseases and infections. Breastfed babies are less likely to have ear infections, respiratory infections, as well as other bacterial and viral infections, such as meningitis.
~Research also suggests that breastfeeding may help to protect against obesity, diabetes, sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS), asthma, eczema, colitis, and some cancers.

    Breastfeeding also helps the mother:

~It releases hormones such as oxytocin that promote bonding and mothering behavior.
~It prompts the uterus to return to the size it was before pregnancy more quickly.
~It burns calories, which helps many women drop the weight gained during pregnancy.
~It can reduce the risk of ovarian cancer and breast cancer.

A lot of this information, and more, is available on sites such as U.S. National Library of Medicine, Department of Health and Human Services, Office on Women’s Health, Mayo Clinic, Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion, etc. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that babies be exclusively breastfed for about the first 6 months of life.

Breast milk and formula both feed a baby just fine but breast milk is the preferred option, especially in the first days when colostrum is produced. No formula can duplicate that. Once the milk has come in, it’s uniquely created each time baby feeds to meet baby’s nutritional needs. The composition of the milk can change every feeding. Formula, for the most part, is a one size fits most option that, while very nutritious, can cause some babies problems. Most formulas are milk based and some babies have allergies to the protein. Yes, this is why there are soy based formulas. Still, there are parts of breast milk that the formula companies can not duplicate. It is critical to nurse a baby on demand to keep the mother’s milk supply going. Worst case, if the baby misses feedings and the mother can’t pump, the mother can become painfully engorged which can lead to clogged ducts and possibly mastitis. At the very least, missing feeds will wreak havoc with the mother’s supply. Breast feeding is a supply and demand system. The milk is made as baby demands it and some growth spurts cause a baby to feed almost around the clock. The goal of that kind of cluster feeding is to quickly increase the mother’s supply to meet the demand of the growing baby. So it is very important that babies be allowed to nurse whenever they want.

When a baby cries from hunger, he or she needs to be fed right away. There is a lot of difference between the nutritionally perfect, always available, immune system-boosting breastmilk (with its inherent bonding experience) and the expensive, hard-to-carry, manufactured substitute.

Well, he is just a special kind of stupid isn’t he? So, breastfeeding women is seen as something sexual? That is his first problem. He is another conservative idiot that views women as just sexual objects here for his personal gratification. Then, he believes molesting and sexually assaulting a woman is a “family value”? So, I guess that means if he has a right to put his hands on a woman breastfeeding her baby, she has a constitutional right to either put his balls in a vice grip, or pull out her gun and shoot him, right? Can’t have it all one sided now can we?

  371. MVC

    January 5, 2016 at 2:27 pm

Hey Kyle, thanks for asking! I know many women are glad that someone in this comment stream takes a genuine interest. The WHO encourages breast feeding for all babies exclusively for 6 months and after that until age two. There are many reasons for this. Breast milk is filled with exactly the right proportion of macronutrients (fat, carbs, and protein) and contains unique nutrients designed by nature to allow the baby to thrive. There are many immediate diseases that are prevented for the baby as a result of eating this way, such as failure to thrive and a bacterial disease that destroys the intestines. Importantly, there are also lots of other health problems that the growing child/future adult also sidesteps or fully prevents if he is breastfed exclusively for at least six months, such as obesity, diabetes, heart disease, allergies, asthma, and autoimmune diseases. Breast milk helps build the child’s immune system in important a ways that formula can’t. In fact, formula has been shown in studies to undermine the long term health of many children. It’s valuable when breastfeeding simply isn’t possible, but it should be second choice. For this reason, breast milk banks are beginning to be built at hospitals around the country. Sick newborns are much more likely to recover and succeed if given breast milk instead of formula.

Breast feeding doesn’t only improve the baby’s health, but it’s also so much more cost effective – free, in fact! And later, since the adult has fewer illnesses, it saves on healthcare costs. And it’s not reliant on clean water, exact measurements, or storage, making it easy for the mom to provide.

Babies must eat when they are hungry. This is true not only because the breast milk is necessary for proper growth, but responding with food as needed at a this young age supports the psychological stage of building trust. This means that a mom out in the world has to stop to feed the baby when the baby indicates hunger. That may mean on a bench at the mall or at the airport or wherever. Finally, it’s the most wonderful bonding experience between mom and baby, and nursing helps mom recover from the rigors of childbirth. Frankly, there’s nothing not to like about breast feeding. The benefits are amazing for baby and mom. Support for healthy babies should be a first priority, and the first step is to encourage breast feeding. It’s truly unfortunate that anyone would mistake this loving motherly action as anything but beautiful and worthy.

I am not necessarily against or in favor of public breast feeding that is personal option, but that is the stupider thing I ever hear someone say. Just because a woman is breastfeeding or even a person nude in public doesn’t give anyone the right to touch any more than a person showing their naked face, arms, fingers or toes doesn’t give any one the right to touch it. Now if someone stares at them they should not be offended by it either.

Just a quick comment about your post. I have no problem with breast feeding, but you must respect others that bottle feed their babies. There are many reasons why a mother may not breast feed, none of which are your business to know. I also think weaning a child before they are almost three is better…but that was your choice not mine. The issue about all of this is common sense and the freedom for women to make the best choices for themselves and their families.

I wasn’t comfortable having a possibly exposed breast in public OR with feeding in a bathroom or my car or never going anywhere. So I nursed my kids with a Maya Baby Sling, it was the best thing I ever did. I could walk in a store pushing my toddler in a cart while nursing my infant safely in the wrap. Nobody saw a thing, baby loved it. When she was done with lunch, she would ride snug up to me, sitting up in the wrap. Perfect solution.

Beyond the necessary nutriants which can self adjust according to babies needs, breastmilk contains antibodies and white cells that help keep baby healthy. There’s a whole chemical reaction going on between baby and mother that communicates what the baby needs.

Your in denial to believe “there is nothing sexual” about a womens breast. By your logic men can let their penis hang out because its used for a natural bodily function as nature intended, or your vagina or anus….. Nerves is.the nipple.are directly connected to to your uterous, this is why when a baby breastsfeeds it causes the uterous to contract speeding recovery, it is also a stimulant for sexual arousal, it also helps secure semen in the uterous by contracting during stimulation. Then you have a complletely cultural issue sexualizing the breasts in media,.songs etc… So stop blaming men, blame society…

Someone truly wrote that urine is filled with vitamins and “neutrients” that “many sports start [sic] and martial artists drink first thing in the morning….” Actually, the point of urine is to get rid of waste products from the body. The kidneys do this by first removing the nutrients excreted into body fluids during chemical processes. The kidneys shunt these nutrients to the blood so they return to the cells. They then take the leftover unusable materials and add them to the excess water that is not needed by the body. This combination is what makes up urine. If anyone is drinking urine for vitamins and “neutrients,” they are wasting their time. Everything in it has already been deemed useless by the body. Filtered water would be a much better choice.

This is the same thing that my husband and I say all the time. So many of these women now nursing think that people are offended by it and don’t care. That is not always the case most of the time it is the comfort level and I wish that they would respect that. I like you, nursed under a blanket and now they have those really cute and convenient wraps but they won’t use them. The reason is, if you don’t cover your face to eat then why should they cover the babies face to eat.

bull shit if you can touch me! just because I feed my child doesn’t give you the right to touch me ever! Only my man can touch me! Touch me n you will lose your fucking hand! There is nothing wrong with us feeding our children in public. It’s what they did a hundred years ago before the bottles n formula was invented!!

Breast feeding = maternal, natural and nurturing. Grabbing a woman’s exposed breast because it’s there = sexual, perverted and unwarranted assault. What he is basically saying is that men cannot control their sexual urges and should all be treated like sexual predators because if they see boobs, they should be allowed to grab them and an innocent woman feeding an infant is fair game. Sick, sick man.
