Forty-year-old man who raped a 12-year-old girl will not spend a single day in prison

Martin Blake of Glasgow, Montana was sentenced Wednesday to 30 years in prison for one count of felony incest, but those 30 years will be suspended thanks to Valley County District Court judge John C. McKeon.

According to The Glasgow Courier, prosecutor Dylan Jensen had originally asked for 100 years, with 75 suspended. Blake’s sentence was a part of a plea deal with in which he admitted to sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl one time – even though he was arrested more than once for assaulting the same girl.

From Jezebel:

During sentencing, Blake’s Public Defender Casey Moore argued that his client would be a good candidate for a community-based treatment program, as he had the support of his mother and family, was employed and attended church, which makes him lower risk for repeat offenses. In a bit of a contradiction, Moore added, “I’m not asking that he be given a slap on the wrist…He did spend 17 days in jail, and he did lose his job.”

Citing support from his family, employer, church, and letters from the victim’s mother and grandmother, Judge McKeon decided to go against the prosecution’s recommendation.

As KRTV reports, a petition is circulating looking to have Judge McKeon impeached.

“It is time to start punishing the judges who let these monsters walk our streets,” the petition states. “It is time to remove Judge McKeon from the bench.”
