GOP official resigns after telling gay Native American candidate to go ‘back to the reservation’

A Kansas GOP official has resigned after facing backlash for referring to a Democratic congressional candidate as a “radical socialist kick boxing lesbian Indian,” who he’d like to send “back packing to the reservation.”

As the Kansas City Star reported this Tuesday, Kansas precinct committeeman Michael Kalny made the comments in a Facebook message about Sharice Davids, who is running against GOP Rep. Kevin Yoder. Davids is an openly gay amateur mixed martial arts fighter and she’s also of Native American heritage.

Kalny’s comments were sent in a to Johnson County Democratic Women’s north chapter president Anne Pritchett, who later posted a screenshot of the message to Facebook.

“Little Ms. Pritchett – you and your comrades stealth attack on Yoder is going to blow up in your leftist face,” Kalny wrote according to the screenshot. “The REAL REPUBLICANS will remember what the scum DEMONRATS tried to do to Kavanaugh in November. Your radical socialist kick boxing lesbian Indian will be sent back packing to the reservation.”

After the growing backlash led to his fellow Republicans condemning his words, Kalny resign his position on Wednesday.

Johnson County Republican Party chairman Mike Jones confirmed to the Kansas City Star that Kalny resigned.

“He reflected an apologetic attitude and didn’t want to bring negative attention on the party or candidates running in this area,” Jones said.
