Most people would agree that judging the past through the lens of the present is tricky. But this collection of advertisements we stumbled on below from the early and mid-20th Century are pretty jaw-dropping.
With great power comes great responsibility, but apparently marketers in the “good ole’ days” didn’t pay much attention to that advice. Not that they do now, but the blatant racism and sexism displayed in these old ads makes today’s marketing campaigns look like PBS commercials.
Besides being horrifically discriminating, vintage ads were full of lies. But whether we like it or not, they’re part of our history.
