Huckabee, Cruz, and Jindal scheduled to speak at rally hosted by pastor who wants gays executed

In a great move forward for conservative politics, GOP 2016 contenders Ted Cruz, Mike Huckabee, and Bobby Jindal are all scheduled to speak at the upcoming “National Religious Liberties Conference” in Iowa next week. The conference is organized by the far-right pastor Kevin Swanson, who has openly advocated for putting gay people to death.

Ben Carson has also reportedly RSVPd to the event, but his name did not appear on the press release.

Many of the speakers appearing alongside the candidates hold similar views to Swanson, including the President of “American Vision,” Joel McDurmon, who once said that “God revealed that the homosexual act is a civil crime,” adding that “it just so happens that He revealed that the homosexual act as a civil crime deserves the death penalty.”

In 2009, McDurmon criticized the Ugandan government for not going far enough with a bill designed to criminalize homosexuality.

“I think that in a certain place in society when most of the society is Christian –is biblical – that it is perfectly normal, it definitely should be in place homosexuality should receive the death penalty,” McDurmon said.

From Right Wing Watch:

Kevin Swanson, the conference’s chief organizer, is a far-right pastor and host of the “Generations Radio” program, on which he has frequently claimed that the government should put gay people to death, warned that the Girl Scouts and the movie “Frozen” turn girls into lesbians and blamed natural disasters on gay people and women who wear pants.

Swanson, who also openly supported the Ugandan bill, once praised the Pilgrims for their harsh penalties for homosexuality which included execution, banishment, and whippings.
