John McCain busts up laughing when asked if he’s ‘scared’ of Donald Trump

John McCain may be a lot of things, but he’s definitely not scared.

During an appearance on The View this Monday, Arizona GOP Senator John McCain laughed the hardest I’ve seen him laugh in recent memory after he was asked a simple question: “Are you afraid?”

McCain dropped by the show to help celebrate the birthday of his daughter, Meghan McCain, who is also a co-host. During the discussion, the subject of President Trump’s recent threats against the Senator was brought up.

Are you scared?” co-host Sunny Hostin asked. McCain — and the rest of the hosts and studio audience — immediately burst into laughter.

“I mentioned that I had faced greater challenges,” McCain replied after the laughter settled.

Last Monday, McCain, who is currently battling brain cancer, gave a speech during an award ceremony where he slammed “half-baked, spurious nationalism” that is “as unpatriotic as an attachment to any other tired dogma of the past that Americans consigned to the ash heap of history.” Many interpreted McCain’s comments as a direct attack on the Trump administration.

“We live in a land made of ideals, not blood and soil,” McCain said in his speech after receiving the Liberty Medal in Philadelphia.

“We are the custodians of those ideals at home, and their champion abroad. We have done great good in the world. That leadership has had its costs, but we have become incomparably powerful and wealthy as we did. We have a moral obligation to continue in our just cause, and we would bring more than shame on ourselves if we don’t. We will not thrive in a world where our leadership and ideals are absent. We wouldn’t deserve to.”

Just hours after the speech, Trump said in a radio interview,”People have to be careful because at some point I fight back. I’m being very, very nice but at some point I fight back and it won’t be pretty.”
