Kevin Swanson parenting tips: ‘Drown yourself’ before your kids watch ‘homosexual mentor’ Harry Potter

Preacher Kevin Swanson went on an extended rant at the National Religious Liberties Conference — following speeches from Republican candidates Ted Cruz, Mike Huckabee and Bobby Jindal on the previous day – on why America must repent over legal abortion, birth control, and the immoral themes in county music.

However, Swanson’s diatribe took an interesting turn when he said parents should be “drowned” before they let their children read J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter because of the gay character Dumbledore.

“America, repent of Harry Potter. Repent that Dumbledore emerged as a homosexual mentor for Harry Potter,” Swanson said. “For tens of millions of parents it would be better that a millstone be hung around their neck and they be drowned at the bottom of the sea.”

“Hiccup’s mentor in ‘How to Train Your Dragon’ emerged as a homosexual himself in order that history might repeat itself one more time,” Swanson said.

Swanson’s comments come on the heals of Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz’s response when asked  if the next President of the United States needed to fear God.

“Any president who doesn’t begin every day on his knees isn’t fit to be commander-in-chief of this nation,” Cruz said.

Watch:

“By claiming that those who do not pray are not fit for office, Senator Cruz is perpetuating the prejudiced myth that humanists and atheists are not moral people,” said Bishop McNeill, manager of the Freethought Equality Fund PAC.

Both Cruz and Swanson’s comments are not particularly surprising given their history. Cruz, who opposes marriage equality, grew up with a anti-gay father who’s given sermons alleging gay people are sexual predators. While the “sins” of the fathers should not reflect on the son, it does go a long way in understanding Cruz’s position on the LGBT community and equal rights.
