Reuters has released their “Best Photos of the Year” collection, and the latest installment for 2013 has us speechless.

We’re living in tumultuous times, and it’s the perfect photograph that can bring us right into the space of others whose experiences we can’t even fathom. Some of us choose not to look. But when we do, we’re reminded how fragile, tragic, and ultimately inspiring the human experience can be.

There are 93 photos in the collection, and we’ve selected 24 of the ones we felt were the most gripping. You can see the entire series here.
