Man who killed neighbor’s dogs and posted it to Facebook is taken into custody

A Texas volunteer firefighter has turned himself into authorities after a photo he posted to Facebook, allegedly showing his neighbor’s dogs that he shot to death, went globally viral.

Tim Conatser, of Hunt County, Texas, posted the graphic photo to his Facebook account last week, claiming that it showed his neighbor’s dogs dead on the ground, along with the caption, “Somebody didn’t put any truth my warning. Keep your damn dogs on your property.”

According to the Washington Post, the 20-year-old was taken into custody this Wednesday and is being held at the Hunt County Jail on two felony animal cruelty charges. His bond is set at $10,000.

For the animal cruelty charges, Conatser faces up to two years in prison, but Texas law might allow him to walk free. Under certain circumstances, a dog or coyote that attacks livestock can be killed lawfully by a landowner and there’s a record of Conatser complaining to another neighbor that the dogs were repeatedly coming on his property and attacking his livestock.
