Nordstrom to Ivanka: You’re fired

According to a report from Business Insider, the retail giant Nordstrom has decided to cut ties with Ivanka Trump‘s brand.

Reasons given by the retailer point to alleged declining sales.

“Each year we cut about 10% [of brands carried] and refresh our assortment with about the same amount,” a Nordstrom spokesperson told Business Insider. “In this case, based on the brand’s performance we’ve decided not to buy it for this season.”

The move comes in the wake of increasing calls for boycotts of the Trump name.

From Business Insider:

Ivanka Trump’s brand, which sells women’s clothing, shoes, and handbags, was available on Nordstrom’s website as recently as Wednesday. On Thursday, Ivanka Trump was not listed on Nordstrom’s master list of brands available, as Business Insider previously reported.

Trump’s brand did not respond to a request for comment.

Availability of Trump’s products has been declining on Nordstrom’s website for weeks.

Just this early December, Nordstrom featured 71 products from Ivanka Trump’s company — a figure that now stands at 26 this last week.

The focus shifted to Nordstrom after a shopper’s letter to the retailer was widely circulated on social media.

“The hate speech directed at African Americans, Latinos, Jews, Muslims, LGBT people, and women by the Trump campaign is unacceptable and does not seem to represent Nordstrom’s values,” she wrote. “Yet Ms. Trump continues to defend it, and Nordstrom continues to defend her.”
