“Most of my life, I grew up on processed foods. I was very sick as a child. I had eczema, asthma, allergies… When I started to make changes based on the information I started learning, my health did a one-eighty. I went from someone who was on eight prescription drugs, to zero. My eczema went away, my asthma went away, my allergies went away – I became this new being of health.”
Vani Hari, better know as the Food Babe, has repeated this quote in one variation or another numerous times. It’s the foundation of her business and it’s what gives hope to her millions of followers, keeping them hooked on the virtual assembly line of pseudoscience she’s churned out over the last years – which is only now getting the scrutiny it deserves.
It doesn’t take a scientist to know that curing one’s allergies with a simple change in diet is a spurious claim at best. But that’s what Hari clings to until this very day – which is why this post someone pointed out to me on her Facebook page from April 3 is slightly interesting:
Maybe she just meant her allergies were cured until allergy season comes around.
Naturally, the comment section is filled with loyal fans offering her their “strategies”:
“One drop each under tongue: Lemon, Lavender,Peppermint do TERRA essential oils–the allergy trio,” one person writes.
“Local honey, acupuncture or a chiropractor, actually eat the garlic and ginger not just the juice. It could be a smoothie if you want to drink it. Lavender EO,” writes another.
It gets even crazier.
But in the sea of craziness are a handful of people after my own heart, who hilariously shine a mirror onto the Food Babe’s charlatanry. I’ve screenshotted a few of the best ones for your enjoyment below:
