Pranksters fool people by reading morbid and misogynist bible verses, telling them it’s the Koran

Christians tend to forget that their own Bible is also full of horrific verses.

Conservative Christians, as well as atheists in the U.S., like to point out the Koran’s barbarism and misogyny. But unlike atheists, Christians tend to forget that their own Bible is also full of horrific verses.

To highlight this, Dutch pranksters at Dit Is Normal took a Bible to the streets and changed the cover to say it’s the Koran, then they asked people to read passages and give their thoughts.

The pranksters explained their “experiment” in the description on their YouTube channel:

[Islam] has been under huge scrutiny lately and is often [criticized] for being an aggressive religion… but what about Christianity? In this video we disguised a Bible as a Quran and read some of it’s most gruesome verses to the people. This is what they had to say.

And from the appearance of where you were highlighting and reading from is the Old Testament. The New Testament is when God sent his son Jesus to teach and also be the ultimate sacrifice for our sins so that we may leave the punishment and sacrifices of the Old Testament and be close to God even though we are not sinless. Yes, the Old Testament is harsh, very difficult especially in today’s world to justify those actions against someone but that is why the New Testament tells of hope that Jesus brought with his sacrifice.

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”
    JOHN 3:16

Yes there are violent verses in the old testement. No one knows about them, no one acts on them, no one cares about them.. When was the last time you saw a Hasidic Jew flying a plane into a building quoting Deuteronomy? When was the last time you saw a Methodist blowing himself up with a suicide vest? When was the last time you can say you saw a prominent figure an any religion outside of Islam justifying the killing of unbelievers because they are unbelievers?

Why does Christianity get nuance and the benefit of the doubt, but Islam – a religion you probably know next to nothing about – gets the black or white treatment?

Can you tell me with certainty from your own reading and study of Islam (not some newscommenters words) that the parts of the Koran that you’re afraid of aren’t from an equally ‘irrelevant’ portion of the Koran?

PS – 1 Cor 14:34-35, Eph 5:22-24 (andmore!) Even your ‘defense’ of Christianity is bogus. The NT says some pretty dumb stuff, too

I’ve seen a lot of hatred from Christians directed towards Muslims, the vast majority of whom are not angry or violent. Over a million Americans are Muslim and bear no ill will towards their country.

Christian nations throughout Europe perpetrated the Holocaust and tolerated vehement anti-Semitism. Christians used to Bible to justify enslaving millions of Africans for over 400 hundred years, and they used to Bible to rationalize laws prohibiting interracial marriage. Something tells me you need to brush up on your history.

There were radical Jews in Palestine- have you ever heard of Menachem Begin? Menachem Begin was called a terrorist and a fascist by Albert Einstein and 27 other prominent Jewish intellectuals in a letter to the New York Times which was published on December 4, 1948.

Do yourself a favor- learn something or people will start to dismiss you as a fool.

    Here’s a book about them:
    http://www.nybooks.com/articles/2015/09/24/jewish-terrorists/

And just this summer, this happened:
    http://www.theguardian.com/world/2015/aug/02/israel-to-detain-west-bank-arson-attackers-without-trial

Then there is the shooting in CO Springs.
There was the IRA in the recent past.
Last I heard the KKK was still a thing.

Even Buddhists are getting in on the “fun”:
    http://world.time.com/2013/06/20/extremist-buddhist-monks-fight-oppression-with-violence/

I hope feel a least a little twinge of recognition of this idea: You go through your life looking for the information that supports what you already beleive (you’re not alone, it’s human nature, but you’re def. doing it), not seeking out the truth.

The truth is idea about Islam and religion is so general and simplistic as to be cartoonish.
The violent thread within Islam is a problem. But all religions have this thread – so let’s stop pretending Islam is the only one.

The point she’s trying to make is the New Testament preaches about love and compassion, where as the Old Testament was very harsh. The ideals of Christianity changed when Jesus made his sacrifice.

Funny how that doesn’t apply to the Ten Commandments. Especially given that every archaeologist ever to go over Egypt with a fine comb (especially the ones with a vested interest in finding proof) has had to concede that the Book of Exodus never happened, and nothing from Moses to Sinai was even real.

What’s really astounding is that no one there or the OP doesn’t realize that there are plenty of parallels with the Bible and Koran.
not to mention context is key with oh.. Everything.

Also an important comment, whenever I see something bad being said about a religious text it’s always starting out “People have used (text) to do x”. “People”.

If we didn’t have a religious text to blame, or “cause people to do stupid things”, I’m sure humanity would find something to justify something.

If you look at the culture when 1 Tim was written, the new testament was progressive in comparison to how women were treated.. The Bible, all 66 books, every jot and tittle, is the divinely inspired word and they do it all. Oh yes they do. Snakes and foot washing, long haired women and multiple wives in subjection to their husbands. Try living in the mountains of Arkansas, the rural areas of Georgia, the backwaters of Louisiana and Mississippi – you WILL find these verses practiced – and MORE in the name of God.

    AWESOME!!!!!!!!!
yep, that;s whart we do in the netherlands we investigate & Confront people.

A while ago they did the same, and taken this to the extreme, with politics involved. They took an offical flyer from a christian political party ( who has representatives in Dutch congress & Senate!) and replaces the Words God, Bible & Christian value’s for Allah, Koran & islamic value’s.

Specialy the quotes about women was very agressive, and these people do practice this.. In my Country the nethelands. Women have less rights, are property of the man and less value, they do not use cars on Sunday, they walk, and women MUST walk behind the man allways! The hidden violance, rape & Incest in these “Christian” communities is way to high.

This was very onfronting for people to realize this was going on inside the netherlands in the mainly Dutch Bible belt (and parts of Catholic communities aswell)

The dutch court ruled one of the official dutch christian political parties as: Extrimists and had their goverment support for political parties revoked.

The 2 bigest diseas in the world are Racism & religious strive among our selves.

Most of us just go to school or work, perform arts, like to enjoy their family and lives, just like Hindu, Jews, Budists, Christians, Islamics, Athiasts, and so on for we are the human race.

We as the human race will need to start living together, instead of some people to let us drive away from each other. We need to stop the clash of civilizations & religions our selfs.

PS Terror groups who claim to be representing a religion are allways a extremsist minority.
PS 2: In the case of IS it is set up by.. Former Iraki officers from Sadams elite forces. ( investigated by journalists and shown aswell on the dutch media) And they use islamic extremists for their goal to take back irak.. (Thank you for good journalsim)

Well.. I am sorry to be a whistleblower on your statement, but sadly enough many Christian groups and regions of the world were christians value’s are a mayority did not quite refrom to the modern age either.

As very sad example I take Female genital mutilation. This is said in the media and by christians to be a islamic thing..
Which is a lie. it is done often in countries were christians are the mayority. Were it is officialy forbidden by the islamic rules and islamic rulers. yet we fail to see this is a regional issue, and if linked to religion, it is aswell a very Christian thing

You can use google to find out more example’s of bad things, OR MAKE THEM UP! from any religion and use it as propaganda against and among ourselves.

But the good things about each other we do not want to see and promote.

And yes, reforms are underway aswell in islamic countries & communities, christian countries & communities need to step up our reforms aswell.. ( just look at the US as a very bad example .. and that you can google: christian violence in the US
ow and the attacks Planned parenthood clinics wow.. with such christian “friends” you do not need other enemies.

“The men who have most injured and oppressed humanity, who have most deeply sinned against it, were according to their standards and their conscience, good men; what was bad in them, what wrought moral evil and cruelty, treason to truth and progress, was not at all their intentions, in their purpose, in their personal character, but in their opinions.”

I do know that nowhere in the bible does the God of Christianity or Israel tell His followers to be deceptive with those who are not also followers, and to pretend to befriend them while holding hate in your heart for them, because they are the enemy of God. The God of the bible also doesn’t tell Christians to go out and populate other nations, and kill those who refuse to convert, because their messiah will never come until there is nobody left populating the planet except their own believers.

In 1950 a Jewish scientist invented the cobalt nuclear bomb, a dirty nuclear weapon so powerful, that he stated just 400 of them will be able to kill ALL life on Earth. That same scientist was the one who invented the atom bomb, in 1933, patenting his fully workable design in 1934 in London, England.

Golda Meir, Martin Van Creveld and other senior Israelis have emphasized the absolute certainly that Israeli nuclear weapons will be released against all countries in the world if ever Israel looks as if it will face military defeat. Those weapons exist.

    Rabbi Ishmael Levitts stated;

“It is in the Jewish interest, it is in humanity’s interest, that whites experience a genocide.

“Until white children are burned alive, white children raped, mutilated, murdered, and all white men who have not been slaughtered watch as their people are terrorized, only then will mankind be on an equal footing ready to discuss white privilege and the apparent chip on the shoulder that minorities have.”

The God of the Bible doesn’t tell Christians to d that, yet people acting in the name of Christ have done pretty just that throughout history. The Catholic Church has encouraged war over religion and condoned torture of heretics and the banishment of heathens. A destiny to fulfill the mission to do God’s work across the continent was part of the reasoning behind “Manifest Destiny” and the move for the United States to expand to the Pacific.

Jesus himself was deceptive : John 7
Christ then told his brothers to go on up to the feast, but said regarding himself: “I am not going up to this feast; because my time is not yet fulfilled” (v. 8).

The problem, as commonly perceived, is this. The text subsequently declares: “But when his brothers were gone up to the feast, then he went up also, not publicly, but secretly”
So we should follow his example and say one thing and then do something else in secret!
“After a little while, those standing there went up to Peter and said, “Surely you are one of them, for your accent gives you away.” Then he began to call down curses on himself and he swore to them, “I don’t know the man!”
Ah well no deception there either.
“The God of the bible also doesn’t tell Christians to go out and populate other nations, and kill those who refuse to convert, because their messiah will never come until there is nobody left populating the planet except their own believers.” and neither does the Quran.
    Qur’an 5:59 Surah Al-Ma’idah (The Table Spread)
Say: “O People of the Book! do ye disapprove of us for no other reason than that we believe in God and the revelation that hath come to us and that which came before (us) and (perhaps) that most of you are rebellious and disobedient?”
    Qur’an 2:111-112 Surah Al-Baqarah (The Heifer)
And they say: “None shall enter paradise unless he be a Jew or a Christian.” Those are their (vain) desires. Say: “Produce your proof if ye are truthful.”
“Nay whoever submits his whole self to God and is a doer of good he will get his reward with his Lord; on such shall be no fear nor shall they grieve.”

See nothing about Mohamed, nothing about Islam, and unfortunately you know nothing about the Quran except that which Fox news and some ignorant itinerant fraudster tells you.

The God of the old testament is a different God from the one Jesus is bringing us to. The old testament God is called the demiurge. He is a lesser creator God. Not the true God. This all comes from my version of the new testament which includes gospels from the Nag Hammadi library and the dead sea. If today’s Christians would read what early Christians read, many would abandon the faith or be reborn into gnosis. The Gnostic gospels = true Christianity.

“The God of the bible also doesn’t tell Christians to go out and populate other nations, and kill those who refuse to convert…”

This is exactly what God told Moses to do when they were going to the Promised Land. He said to kill everyone, man, woman, child, animal. In fact, King Saul was demoted from being king because he saved some of the sheep and the king of the Amalekites. Mass genocide occurred in the books of Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy,, Judges, and the Samuels. The only fault that God had on those people were that they didn’t kill ENOUGH!

Yeah, you don’t see it that much now in Christianity, but how you mindlessly read one book and declare the religion violent, and then take a nuanced approach with another book?

    December 9, 2015 at 6:35 am

The funny thing is that that verse means exactly the opposite of what you think it means. Jesus was saying that He would *fulfill* the Law and the prophecies. He did this by living a perfect life and doing everything the OT prophecies said the Messiah would do, then giving His life as a sacrifice to make up for all the shortcomings of the rest of us. He was saying that after His death and resurrection we wouldn’t need to live by the Law at all but would instead live in an era of forgiveness by grace. “Fulfill” does not mean “enforce.”

  58. TR

    December 9, 2015 at 6:40 am

The entire OT is full of references to the future coming of Jesus and predictions of the wonderful things He would do. A religion who worships Jesus as God isn’t going to just discard the OT because of . . . well, pretty much anything.

  59. TR

    December 9, 2015 at 6:51 am

Jesus agreed that the Law was in effect at the time of His life, but He also planned to fulfill the Law (Matthew 5:17) through His life, death, and resurrection, and start a new era in which we are forgiven through grace (Romans 5:1) rather than earning forgiveness through the Law, which now no longer applies to us (Romans 6:14). So basically it did apply during His life and He said as much, but it does not apply now. Why? Because of Jesus’ perfect sacrifice.

  60. TR

    December 9, 2015 at 6:59 am

uh, it sounds like what he was saying was “go on ahead, I’m not going yet” and then when his “time was fulfilled,” whatever that means, he followed them. How is that deceitful? If he was going secretly, it’s probably because the religious leaders of the day had a warrant out for his arrest, so to speak.

You see, some of us get confused between when we are supposed to believe what we read, and when we need really smart people to tell us that we should believe them.
That is the trouble, when people read what’s in the Quran, they get upset, but it is only because they don’t have someone nice to explain what it really means.
