Religious Right leader declares only Christian men can become President of the United States

A predominate religious right leader said last week that only Christian men are qualified to become the President of the United States.

Gary Cass of the Christian Anti-Defamation Commission released a new video helping his fellow right-wing Christians understand”the biblical qualifications for political office.

“What should be look for in our elected officials?” Cass asked, rhetorically. “The first qualification is they must be a Christian … What a candidate professes about God is absolutely critical, it will profoundly shape his leadership. Genuine reverence for the Lord is the foundation of knowledge … so we need a leader who is alive spiritually and who will lead in the fear of God.”

Cass then explains that leaders must meet the “ biblical biological requirement for office.”

“Civil leadership should be conceived of as an extension of the family and God’s created order. God established man as the head of the woman and the woman as his helpmate … In society, the same roles apply as is ordained in the family and in the church.”

“The ministry of justice that God has given to the state is generally a man’s job,” Cass continued. “Yet, there are exceptions in the Bible where God has raised up women like Deborah to judge and even deliver Israel. But it’s considered an indictment when there’s no strong, godly men to lead and protect their families and society.”

Cass has said in the past that President Obama is not a Christian, owning a gun is mandatory for all Christians, and that gay people are “spiritually worthless,” according Patheos.

Dr. Gary Cass (I know dozens of people with legitimate PhD’s and MD’s who never use their degree as a title so why is it so important for these charlatans to do so…but I digress), is a well-known right wing nut who wants white male Christian supremacy for a nation dedicated to religious freedom. Who died and made Cass King of the World? Unbelievable….

Here is the basis of the “no religious test” wording of the 6th Amendment:
“Where the preamble declares that coercion is a departure from the plan of the holy author of our religion, an amendment was proposed, by inserting the word ‘Jesus Christ,’ so that it should read ‘departure from the plan of Jesus Christ, the holy author of our religion’ the insertion was rejected by a great majority, in proof that they meant to comprehend, within the mantle of it’s protection, the Jew and the Gentile, the Christian and Mahometan, the Hindoo, and infidel of every denomination.” (Thomas Jefferson autobiography July 27, 1821 – Library of Congress)

See, here’s the thing. As we are not a christian nation, we do not use the bible to dictate our laws. We have this document called the United States Constitution. In it, specifically in Article VI, it says,

All debts contracted and engagements entered into, before the adoption of this Constitution, shall be as valid against the United States under this Constitution, as under the Confederation.
THIS CONSTITUTION, AND THE LAWS OF THE UNITED STATES WHICH SHALL BE MADE IN PURSUANCE THEREOF; AND ALL and all treaties made, or which shall be made, under the authority of the United States, SHALL BE THE SUPREME LAW OF THE LAND; and the judges in every state shall be bound thereby, anything in the Constitution or laws of any State to the contrary notwithstanding.
The Senators and Representatives before mentioned, and the members of the several state legislatures, and all executive and judicial officers, both of the United States and of the several states, shall be bound by oath or affirmation, to support this Constitution; but NO RELIGIOUS TEST SHALL EVER BE REQUIRED AS A QUALIFICATION TO ANY OFFICE OR PUBLIC TRUST under the United States.

Nowhere in the US Constitution are the words god, christian, christianity, jesus christ or bible. Nowhere in it does it say, in any way, shape or form, “unless specified otherwise in the bible”. Can that possibly be any clearer? We’re not a christian nation; build a bridge and get over it

There are wackos on the left and there are wackos on the right. Why does this page need to focus attention on either?
