Republican who said Dems commit ‘every case of voter fraud’ gets busted for voter fraud

Former Colorado Republican Party chairman Steve Curtis was charged with committing forgery and voter fraud just months after stating on his talk radio show that “virtually every case of voter fraud I can remember in my lifetime was committed by Democrats.” The charges were confirmed by Kurtis’ spokesman to the Denver Post on Tuesday.

The former GOP official who led the Colorado Republican party from 1997 to 1999 and now hosts a conservative talk radio show, allegedly filled out, signed, and mailed his ex-wife’s ballot for the 2016 election without her knowledge or consent.

“I was livid over the whole situation, definitely,” Kelly Curtis told Fox 31 Denver. “I had no idea what would go on in someone’s mind to cast my ballot for me illegally, actually to go to all the trouble to forge my ballot.”

According to Kelly, when she attempted to register to vote in South Carolina, where she had recently moved, she was informed that she had already voted in Colorado.

Quite contrary to Curtis’ claims that “every case of voter fraud” is “committed by Democrats,” Colorado’s Secretary of State confirmed that the only recorded case of voter fraud in the state for the 2016 election was that of Curtis’ voting on behalf of his ex-wife.

Despite Donald Trump’s repeated claims that the election would be rigged against him, and, recently, that he only lost the popular vote because between 3 and 5 million votes were cast illegally, he has been unable to provide any evidence of this. Meanwhile, there exists a handful of recorded cases of Trump supporters like Curtis committing voter fraud.

Curtis’ actions are particularly notable due to his harsh comments on Democrats, and, of course, his previous leadership position with the Republican party. Hopefully, they’ll get fellow Republican officials thinking a bit more about the policies they support which are known to amount to voter suppression of minorities.

After all, as author and activist Derek Cressman noted in a Wednesday tweet, Curtis’ crime couldn’t have been prevented by stringent photo ID requirements.
