Rick Snyder gets shredded on Capitol Hill: ‘You’re dripping with guilt but drawing your salary’

Michigan Governor Rick Snyder testified this Thursday at a Flint congressional hearing over the water crisis. Snyder, who oversaw the state while its residents were being poisoned by the bacteria and lead-infested water, was the subject of harsh criticism from Congressmen Matt Cartwright who believes that the governor knew more than what he is saying about the tainted water supply.

A video from MSNBC shows Congressmen Matt Cartwright grilling Snyder for his supposed negligence.

“Governor Snyder, plausible deniability only works when it’s plausible, and I’m not buying that you didn’t know any of this until October 2015,” said Cartwright.

In response to the criticism, Governor Snyder said, “I took immediate action as soon as I learned there was a lead issue. We started issuing filters to people, doing water testing, doing blood testing…” before being cut of by Congressman Cartwright.

Even though Snyder claims that this came to his attention in October 2015 and declared a state of emergency in January 2016, The Atlantic reported that to save money, “the city began drawing its water from the Flint River, rather than from Detroit’s system, which was deemed too costly. But the river’s water was high in salt, which helped corrode Flint’s aging pipes, leaching lead into the water supply.”

Congressman Cartwright continued the scorching of Snyder:

“There you are, dripping with guilt but drawing your salary, hiring lawyers at the expense of the people, and doing your dead-level best to spread accountability to others and not being accountable… People who put dollars over the fundamental safety of the people do not belong in government. And you need to resign too, Governor Snyder.”

Democratic Presidential candidate Bernie Sanders has joined in the calls for Snyder’s resignation.

“There are no excuses. The governor long ago knew about the lead in Flint’s water. He did nothing. As a result, hundreds of children were poisoned. Thousands may have been exposed to potential brain damage from lead. Gov. Snyder should resign,” said Sanders.
