Sarah Sanders in 2016: ‘Attacking the FBI when you’re under investigation means you’re losing’

Just before the presidential election last year, future White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders took to Twitter to take a jab at then-candidate Hillary Clinton. Now almost exactly a year later, that same tweet is going viral for its perfectly-aged hypocrisy.

On November 3 of last year, Sanders tweeted: “When you’re attacking FBI agents because you’re under criminal investigation, you’re losing.”

The dig was presumably aimed at Clinton over the FBI’s then-announcement of new details in the investigation into her email server. But thanks to President Trump’s recent attack on the FBI, the tweet is making the rounds again.

In a series of tweets from this weekend, Trump slammed the FBI, calling its investigations of Clinton “phony and dishonest,” adding that its “reputation is in tatters” and the “worst in history.”

“But fear not, we will bring it back to greatness,” Trump tweeted.

Trump was responding to a New York Times report revealing that Special Counsel Robert Mueller removed an agent from his investigation who allegedly was speaking out against Trump. The agent, Peter Strzok, was part of the investigation into the use of Clinton’s private email server.

As expected, Twitter users pounced on the tweet:
