Sen. Bob Menendez on the FBI’s Kavanaugh report: ‘If that’s an investigation, it’s bullshit’

Senator Bob Menendez (D-NJ) gave his thoughts on the recently wrapped up FBI investigation into the sexual assault accusations against SCOTUS nominee Brett Kavanaugh. If his choice of words are any indication, he isn’t all that impressed.

In a video posted to his own Twitter account, Menendez slammed the FBI’s investigation of Kavanaugh’s background, which he said restricted agents from speaking to people who could have helped shed some light on the accusations.

“If that’s an investigation it’s a bullshit investigation,” Menendez says in the video.

“The reality is, that is not a full and thorough investigation,” he added.

The Senator suggested that Republicans intentionally limited the investigation.

“I hear a lot about lack of corroboration. Well, you don’t get corroboration if you don’t talk to corroborating witnesses,” he said.

It’s not clear if the person who filmed the video was a journalist or a Menendez aide.

Kavanaugh has denied the allegations against him, which allegedly took place in the 1980s during his high school and college years. Now that the FBI investigation has been completed, the Senate will vote on his confirmation in the coming days.

So far, the report has received reviews that are split down party lines. While Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) claimed the White House had “straightjacketed this investigation,” Senator Jeff Flake (R-AZ) and Senator Susan Collins (R-ME) said they were satisfied with the results.

As The Hill points out, recent polls indicate Menendez faces a tough reelection battle this year due to his indictment for various corruption charges, which were dismissed in January.
