The Women’s March in L.A. drew in over 700K people and there were zero arrests

According to a statement from the Los Angeles Police Department, this Saturday’s Women’s March in the city resulted in zero arrests, an impressive feat considering that between 500,000 and 750,000 people showed up for the event.

“We had zero arrests,” LAPD spokeswoman Officer Norma Eisenman told The Wrap. “It was very peaceful, very family-oriented. We had lots of families out there. …They looked happy. There were people out there who looked happy just to exercise their First Amendment rights.”

On Sunday, the LAPD confirmed with local publication LAist that exactly zero arrests were made during the mass protest.

According to The Hill, the same was true for the Women’s March in Washington, D.C., on the same day, where an estimated 500,000 protesters showed up — resulting in zero arrests.

From The Hill:

D.C. Homeland Security Director Christopher Geldart told NBC news that despite the massive crowds, no arrests were made. On Friday after the inauguration, protests led to the arrests of more than 200 people and the use of pepper spray and stun grenades by police.

According to reports, related marches globally totaled roughly 3 million.
