Conspiracy Theories

This guy’s brilliant prank on chemtrail believers shows how fake news spreads

Chris Bovey, a 41-year-old from Devon, England, had the idea to troll the chemtrails camp.

Anyone who’s had an Internet connection for the last decade has most likely heard of the “chemtrails” conspiracy theory: the notion that the white vapor you see trailing planes at high altitudes is not simply condensation, but a sinister mix of chemicals that the government uses to crop dust the population for mind control purposes, weather manipulation, etc.

The evidence for this is absolutely zero, but the number of people who subscribe to and disseminate this unique brand of paranoia (maybe even more incoherent than 9/11 trutherism) is shockingly high — and growing.

The growth of this particular form of mass misinformation, and conspiracy theories in general, has expanded along with the growth of the Internet. That’s what makes a certain ‘social experiment’ by a fellow from the U.K. so interesting.

As reported in 2014 by VICE, Chris Bovey—a 41-year-old from Devon, England, duped chemtrail conspiracists when his plane had to make an emergency landing and had to dump some fuel while in the air. Taking advantage of the fact that he had a window seat, Bovey was able to film the fuel being sprayed from the plane wing.

Touching down, he uploaded the video with a caption that suggested it could be evidence of chemtrails, hoping to mess with a couple of friends who he knew might fall for it. The video now has 1.1 million views, nearly 20,000 shares, and dozens of comments telling viewers to “wake the F up,” or accusing naysayers of being “stupid paid shills.”

Adding fuel to the fire, Bovey then made up a story about how he’d been detained at Heathrow Airport and was interrogated by authorities who confiscated his cellphone. Soon after, the conspiracy site NeonNettle.com ran his story as video proof for chemtrails.

Speaking to VICE, editor of the anti-conspiracy site Metabunk Mick West says that the proliferation of unverified “evidence” online is what allows conspiracy theories like chemtrails to spread like termites.

“People share things that look interesting without really looking into them, and they take the word of whoever’s posting it that it’s a real thing,” West said. “I knew from the start that [Bovey’s video] was some kind of hoax, but people want to have their worldview confirmed, so when they see something that seems to fit their worldview they jump on it.”

Bovey was then invited onto a radio show hosted by Richie Allen, a friend of David Icke — a man who claims we’re being ruled by a group of lizard creatures disguised as world leaders. On the air, Chris revealed that his video was actually a hoax, after which an argument with the host about the validity of the chemtrails ensued. After the Interview, Bovey has hit with a stream of “vulgar abuse” from conspiracy theorists attacking his Facebook page.

You can read VICE’s interview with Bovey about the aftermath here.

I think some people have either over active imaginations, paranoid, persecution complex or combination with a bit of mass hysteria. The internet makes it much easier to spread misinformation and rumors that suddenly turn into so called facts. I can’t think of anything legal that would stop this from spreading so I just have another cup of tea and smile at the blithering drooling idiots.

In fairness, it’s entirely possible that the “emergency landing” story was just a ruse to make it plausible to dump all that stuff in the air. I do not believe this specific conspiracy theory, at all, it’s ludicrous, they have better ways to spread mind control agents.

Chemtrails. a theory that comes not from people believing the government is out to cull the population with aerosols, it was born from a submitted idea to use reflective particulars that would float in the upper atmosphere and reflect sunlight. This was an idea for stemming the tide of climate change. Then all it takes is for the wackos to take it to the next level and we end up with propaganda pages like Deadstate using it to discredit 911 Truth. Standard procedure for corporate controlled media. Here is a short video from a real online 5th estate entity that has no wacko theories:

I always find it strange when people talk about the 9/11 truth thing as if it were some wack job conspiracy theory, when it’s so blatantly obvious and not even a little bit hidden that it boggles the mind. There was no investigation with even the pretense of independence, and then a few years later people in the media all just started talking about 9/11 truthers as if they were the equivalent of flat earthers or people who believe the moon landing was faked. And we’re supposed to see that and NOT think it’s a conspiracy?

You have heard of vapor trails right??? 99% of contrails are a natural reaction between jet engines and humidity in the atmosphere, not fuel dumping.

    October 14, 2014 at 7:45 pm

After passengers, luggage, cargo, and the fuel the plane did need for the trip, how much capacity for chemtrail chemicals would there be? None.

Plus, given the volume of air these chemicals are supposedly dispersed into, and that wind patterns will take most, if not all of these chemicals into the upper atmosphere. the potency of any chemical would have to be phenomenal, which means that the spills and contamination at every airport would be responsible for more contamination than aerial dispersal.

Chemtrails has to be one of the STUPIDEST conspiracy theories. It is probably promoted by the lizard men to hide their real attack vectors.

O.K. Anybody who has ever watched ANY WW2 video of the air war will tell you that Real Contrails from an engine exhaust lasts for maybe 15 seconds before disappearing completely. ChemTrails as they are known last for 6-12 HOURS and turn the sky into a Smoggy Morass. Before 10 years ago there was no such thing as looking up and seeing DOZENS of sick looking smears across the sky. In case any of you care, there are SATELLITE PHOTOGRAPHS of the continental U.S. literally crisscrossed with THOUSANDS of hundreds miles long trails that hide the blue sky. Really?? Hundreds of jets are dumping fuel at the same time?? Just for Shits and Grins, show me ONE SINGLE video of WW2 bombers and fighters dumping their fuel with it leaving a hundred mile long visible trail that dissippates into the atmosphere and stays there for say 8 hours. Any one want to have us believe that on ANY GIVEN DAY you looking up will see DOZENs of passenger jets dumping EXPENSIVE FUEL as they fly overhead? Really?? Airliners that are struggling to survive as a business are throwing aviation fuel away?? So far nothing in this article has answered any of these questions. Stay off the Fux News koolaid people.

Why would the airlines dump fuel they have paid for just to increase oil company profits? There is no incentive in it for the airlines. High fuel costs give airlines more headaches in the form of customers unhappy with higher fares and lost revenue due to less people flying. Dumping fuel only increases expenses. Check out some aviation forums and actual pilots can explain that it is done for safety reasons. Flight plans factor in a lower landing weight due to so much fuel being used during the flight. An unplanned landing can leave the plane too heavy to land safely.

Ugh, people are so gullible it is truly SICKENING!! Here we go 1. I’ve NEVER seen a “chemtrail” lmao dumped from a plane last 12hrs, or 6hrs, or even 60 minutes for that matter, planes in ww2 DID NOT run on the same petro as today, nor did they carry as much fuel. 2. Planes in ww2 didnt carry a HUGE payload of petro like commercial passenger jets, so why would they even have to dump?? Hell usually they had just enough fuel for the op and return flight. Now for the NEW WORLD ORDER theorists, again LMMFAO. So I wonder if these super rich people that rule the entire world are going to round us up and put us in prison camps, how will they continue to make money? Or how are they gonna keep their companies running? Who will serve them dinner? What im saying is you numb skulls if we are all in camps dont you think they would be shooting themselves in their own feet??? There are several problems with a conspiratorial view that don’t fit with what we know about power structures. First, it assumes that a small handful of wealthy and highly educated people somehow develop an extreme psychological desire for power that leads them to do things that don’t fit with the roles they seem to have. For example, that rich capitalists are no longer out to make a profit, but to create a one-world government. Or that elected officials are trying to get the constitution suspended so they can assume dictatorial powers. These kinds of claims go back many decades now, and it is always said that it is really going to happen this time, but it never does. Since these claims have proved wrong dozens of times by now, it makes more sense to assume that leaders act for their usual reasons, such as profit-seeking motives and institutionalized roles as elected officials. Of course they want to make as much money as they can, and be elected by huge margins every time, and that can lead them to do many unsavory things, but nothing in the ballpark of creating a one-world government or suspending the constitution.–G. William Bomhoff “There Are No Conspiracies”

Why these MORONS are stupid is because you cannot add a water based chemical to fuel, the plane would fall out of the sky, and even if you could, if it goes into the engine, super hot temperatures would nullify it. I’d like to shake this guys hand… and call him a very smart person. I’d love to friend him on FB as I often end up arguing with stupid moronic conspiracy theorists.

The governments disinformation campaign seems to be working really well! If you can’t see what they’re up to, it’s because you don’t want to. For many it’s just too icky and scary to admit. It’s easier just to turn on Faux News or CiaNN and turn off your mind. Well, we get the world we deserve. The truth about ‘better living’ through geo-engineering will someday come to light, and people will have to reluctantly admit that the tinfoil hat wearing nutcases were right. Personally, I never saw this video and would have known immediately that it was fuel being dumped. But I’ve seen other evidence that is irrefutable. Too bad I can’t really do anything to stop it.

Even believing that using air-dispersed particulates to control atmospheric thermodynamics is an applicable possibility, much less a “secret” one.. is completely inane on it’s own.. Sure, the “mind-control” faction is slightly more whacko.. but that’s like saying that Hitler was good, because Stalin was worse.

  39. Kevin H.

    October 15, 2014 at 6:14 pm

While there is no doubt that someone, somewhere is looking for a way to regulate the heat in the atmosphere, it’s still a very unlikely proposition.. If you believe it can/will/or is being done by dispersing particulates in the atmosphere with airplanes… you are ignoring science, facts, common sense, and likely personal hygiene.. (lol.. sorry..Just kidding about the hygiene.. unfair joke, but too easy.. and given my experience “debating” conspiracy theorists.. somewhat warranted)
By the way, this belief isn’t a result of watching corporate news, or parroting a meme you read on facebook once.. It is based in science, logistics, and common sense.

You don’t have to get into full blown complexity theory to show that a non-linear dynamical system like the weather is virtually impossible to control. Even in a purely deterministic state the sensitive dependence on initial conditions makes it virtually impossible to have any idea how an action will affect the system in anything greater than t+1 time steps.
You just can’t intervene in a system like the weather and have any semblance of control. I’d recommend spending some time with a simple system like the Lorenz Equations, which were designed to model weather, to get a feel for how difficult it is to change the weather even if you were to occlude the sky over a huge part of the planet.

You simply can’t change the climate by trying to cool the planet with air-dispersed particulates. You are trapping heat in a closed thermodynamic cycle when you occlude the sun. Any light reflected, no matter the albedo of the cloud cover, would be offset by heat trapped in the lower levels of the atmosphere during that time. An additionally the energy required to loft all these chemicals would result in enough emissions to complete eradicate any change.
Trails from jets are condensate. You can look at the weather forecast and tell when they will occur due to upper level temps and humidity. It isn’t a conspiracy, it is just basic physics.

You can’t simply ignore things like facts, and refute them with non-scientific conjecture.. Doing this, while calling everyone else “shills” or “sheeple” is the HEIGHT of Irony, hypocrisy and plain ignorance.

Grow up, stop lying to yourself. Using examples of bizarre theories by paranoid people as an excuse to overlook the many reasonable facts about the loss of our freedoms by a more and more power grabbing super rich minority, is cowardice on your part. 0 proof they existed? Really? What about the reflective particles they used for haarp? The purpose being that if haarp is for communications you’ll get better skip with reflective stuff in the atmosphere.
Or how about the British government admitting that they did it to run experiments on people between 1940 and 1979.
Yes there are some crazy conspiracy theorists that think every contrail and fuel dump is a chemtrail from the lizard people for mind control. This article seems to want to paint all who believe in chemtrails as such people.
But there is proof that they did and do exist. Governments and universities have admitted to using them to spread “harmless” colds to figure out how to handle a real biological attack to dumping iron in the ocean to putting reflective particles in the atmosphere to reflect the sun or help communications. What are the effects on people when those particles fall? And considering that the last know government experimentation was during the Gulf War (2 August 1990 – 28 February 1991), I remain skeptical, but not insanely so, about what all they are dumping in out atmosphere.

This article is a farce saying there is 0 proof.

Yes. Scientist have tried cloud seeding for years, with very little luck, but they continue to work on the theory. However, it is in no way connected to “chemtrails”, nor is it a secret. So, no.. the chemtrail conspiracy theorists are not right.

  46. Kevin H.

    October 15, 2014 at 9:44 pm

There is a documented history of chemical experimentation (mostly pre-Vietnam War), and it is a scary prospect.. However, none of your examples have anything to do with so-called “chemtrails”, a natural, and predictable weather phenomenon.. I don’t have the time to get into HAARP’s technology of ionospheric radiation experiments, but there is good info:here:
But again.. Not chemtrails.. and not a secret. Contrails are clouds of frozen water. period.. So, yes, there is zero proof that they are anything else.

Umm….A chemical released in the atmosphere via a plane or balloon would be a chemtrail. Harvard University is looking into it to reflect sunlight to combat global warming.
This article suggests that there is and never was such thing as a chemtrail which is an outright lie.
I know that 99.99% of what is seen in the sky is only a contrail.
I don’t have a problem with debunking most of the chemtrail crap because a lot of people get carried away with it. But to say you must either believe they never existed or you are a crazy nut job is not right either. There are such things as chemtrails. Not as prevalent as some think and there to reflect something. Alot of people also confuse contrails for chemtrails. And they are definitely not there for mind control from the lizard people. Not everything is a conspiracy

Look up at the sky, look at your windows, why are chemtrails only seen over cities or areas with large populations. How can it be a theory? The evidence is infront of you!

  50. DMW

    October 16, 2014 at 1:49 am

Actually we know they spray because we can see them with our own eyes. All you have to do is look up every now and then. Contrails don’t happen on warm days or when planes are flying at lower altitudes. I’m not sure of this however as a lifelong skywatcher, I used to see contrails only a few times per winter and on very cold days, but now they are constantly appearing in the skies in all seasons.

And why doesn’t the government dispell our concerns about this? The government is always so remote and secretive. They want to know everything about us but we get to know nothing about them, nor do we even get to know what they know about us! It has to be the other way around, or it’s supposed to be if we advertise ourselves as a democracy.

  51. DMW

    October 16, 2014 at 1:58 am

Meant to add, I do feel that chemtrails are real otherwise why wouldn’t the government tell us it’s not true? However this just makes us better at detecting those who tell the truth and to check all angles before accepting someone’s testimony.

People on this thread scoff at “conspiracy theorists” as being paranoid. Three buildings falling on their footprint perfectly on 9/11 doesn’t seem to make them suspicious. Let me remind them that the media doesn’t check things out either. The story about ISIS beheading journalists has never been verified, yet what people see on the television they think it’s verified. Same goes for ebola. One death from ebola and we’re already upgrading the hospitals yet the media doesn’t pay attention to malaria which is by far a greater killer. They leave important facts out which puts things out of perspective such as beheadings happening on a regular basis in Saudi Arabia. But the agenda is to go into Syria so they concocted another pantomime for the masses. The illusion has to go on for them because the minute people “get it” poof! The gig is up. And when it’s up, there ain’t no unlearnin’ it!

First, all security agencies that are involved in air safety, then Homeland Security — who tend to keep strange folks from having access to fuel tanks, then all the myriad of other agencies who don’t allow the introduction of fuel additives, as well as those who would have to manufacture, store, transport, and introduce into heavily guarded aircraft the active substance — secretly, and flight crews who are ready and willing to co-operate in the timing and the plan…

I giggle at the chemtrail theory every time I hear it. First off, with this video, I dint know if it was an emergency landing or not, but a plane has a max takeoff weight and a max landing weight. Some planes their takeoff weight id equal to their landing weight so no problem. Other aircraft has a less max landing weight than their takeoff weight. The engineers count on fuel burn to lessen the weight when they design them. ( You get lighter the longer you fly) If they have to turn back after takeoff some planes do a “fuel dump” to lighten them, and what you see in the video is a fuel dump. Now as far as the trails go. A jet engine sucks in cool humid air, as its combusted, the water vapor turns to steam and shoots out the back then freezes into crystals in the cold air behind the plane leaving a trail. On low humidity days the trails dissipate fast, on humid days, they hang around and are blown by the wind. At the altitudes required to form the trails, any chemical would evaporate and be blown off target before reaching the ground. That is why crop dusters fly 3 feet over their crops. As a Pilot, I would never knowingly spray chemicals on people, I would quit flying if that was the case.

This is not so. Contrails were a constant problem as they were a great way for the Luftwaffe to spot a bomber formation, as well as hiding the bombing site from any formations that might be behind them.

    Triethylaluminum is in jet fuels
since people here seem to sound like educated jet mechanics or talk as if they buy airline items.
Has no one here worked recently on any types of jets or any size jets?

Some people know recent years, that Aluminum from the sky is why “Monsanto”, had a patent to protect its newer form of “GMO aluminum resistant seeds” made, and they are well known for many health problems caused by GMO foods, all made from GMO seeds to grow genetically engineered “look alike natural untainted foods”.
And all unlabeled in 80% of all USA foods, are GMOs and all have been made to grow pesticides growing inside the foods which is known to slow the stomach flora to stop digestion correctly, lowering our thinking, reacting, lowing the immune system, allowing many illnesses easier to seem like all the “man made medical belief system” falls into place.
Just as “many medial people are legally obligated to mislead the public being the FDA And international medical places control the information and stock market investors”. And for us to go along with more belief systems..

Now recently approved to be sprayed from the air is something called “2,4-D agent orange” causing baby deformities in countries allowed to grow GMOs related with DOW chemical also recently approved, is on some of our foods.

Triethylaluminum in recent years has been a part of the jet fuel options for various reasons and does leave a lot of after trails.

Some trails are suppose to help cover sun shine to help lower the temperatures of oceans and lower the collective air current from the ocean as commonly known to help the arctic circle stop melting and since has grown.

This along with HAARP, being in part a government weapon and part weather control, which is now now in mobile versions, has been also very controversial since recent years as many awareness pages are related subjects.

Especially since all the 80% foods in the USA are GMOs and spayed various ways and are all unlabeled,
they are now in the process as half a dozen states at this time, do now, or soon will have “GMOs simply labeled”, as groups such as “Millions Against Monsanto” and similar problems are addressed and issues related to our foods, the sky, food awareness and much related health qualities.
We hope you can have a look to see related news of “Monsanto’ since they have been involved with patents of Aluminum protection of seeds protected from the air. Thank you for reading.

Your claim that common knowledge is a secret that can’t be kept, is circular logic as self fulfilling. An example is 911, nothing secret about it to be kept, just denials of reality. You see with your own eyes building seven fall at free fall rate. Denying Newton’s 2nd law of motion does not a secret make. In the exact same manner looking up at the sky full of man made linear cirrus clouds that blanket the sky and claiming this is just some how water vapor exhaust that normally persists in the sky, doesn’t make it true because you think what you are looking at to be man made would have to be a secret. It’s no secret – its right there in front of you and it doesn’t dissipate at a rate anywhere near the rate water vapor exhaust does.

If I say an orange balloon is not a pumpkin, that all you have to do is pop it with a pin to verify my claim, and you reply, “if you know this, why don’t you prove it?” What should I think about your critical thinking skills?

Some of us have been on this earth long enough to know how long exhaust trails from high flying passenger jet airplanes last in the sky. It is in the minutes, not hours. We have been seeing this for decades of our lives. Now we can see, on occasion, two planes fly over head that are the same altitude and same kind of plane produce two exhausts of their own, one that dissipates at the normal speed and one that lasts for the entire day. Do I have to prove this to you or anyone else? Or do you just have to prove it to yourself by going outside in early summer and early fall, look up in the sky under established flight paths of large planes, and make some simple observations?

When the simple minded hear or read, “it is just water vapor” and then conclude people who argue it is not “just” water vapor, are paranoid nuts, these are always poorly equipped people for critical thinking.

I don’t base my beliefs on what other people find to be popular, I base it on common sense. See if you have the attention span sufficient to read this section, about 6 paragraphs. And then consider your assuming manner again.

If some institution did indeed want to dose us with chemicals, why would they choose this grossly indirect and inefficient process? Putting it in the food and/or water supply, causing us to directly ingest it, would make a lot more sense. Consider the area of a major city, and what percentage of that area is actually a nostril or mouth. How much of the aerosol chemical would fall to waste on the ground? Volatile “medicinal” chemicals tend to be rather unstable. They likely wouldn’t survive for long in the environment. But that’s real science, as opposed to pseudo-science.

Ugh.. SRM is a THEORETICAL approach to climate engineering. The fact that this theory is debated as a viable option (and certainly NOT very welcomed or widely accepted as a viable option) and being researched by some.. DOES NOT mean that chemtrails are anything other than condensate reacting to atmospheric conditions.. The chemtrail conspiracy has been around for decades longer than any SRM research.. Again, there is TONS of good information out there about this subject, certainly more than wikipedia. Since you claim to “understand the science”, I ask that you to read all of the insurmountable evidence and logic presented as to what causes condensate to persist, and NOT JUST wikipedia, or conspiracy sites with established phony, doctored pictures, & loose and specious coincidences that “prove” what you clearly want to believe so badly.. If you had any intellectual honesty at all, you would research the subject wholly. Since you are such an astute scientific mind, it should be easy. If, after all that, you still believe that those lines in the sky (only on certain days..) are still secret chemicals with an agenda… then godspeed buddy.. I hope it works out for you.

The length of time contrails perist is determined by conditions aloft (humidity, temperature, wind speed and direction). Contrails are just the water in the engine exhaust (approx 1.3 kg per kg of fuel burned) condensing and freezing into ice crystals. They persist about as long as cirrus clouds in similar conditions.

Last week I traveled to Honduras and immediately purchased a Tigo sim card to use while in country. In the meantime I noticed that my T-Mobile card had switched over to Claro. I called my son’s Tigo phone and it appeared to have worked. Yesterday I returned to the USA and I noted that my Tigo card now read AT&T. My question is, if I were to use the Claro (T-Mobile) in Honduras or the AT&T (Tigo) here in the States, would I be charged the outrageous roaming fees I hear about?
